New Miraculous Ladybug Movie Gets First Positive Production Update in Over 2 Years

After two years of delays, there’s good news about the upcoming sequel to *The Movie*. Production is finally moving forward.

Miraculous Corp has added John Cohen, the producer of *Despicable Me*, and Matt Roller, a writer for *Rick and Morty*, to the team working on the next *Miraculous* movie. They’ll be working with Jeremy Zag, who directed the first film and is also producing the sequel. Andy Yeatman, CEO of Miraculous Corp, believes Cohen’s success with animated hits and Roller’s talent for combining emotion, comedy, and creativity will make the new film both exciting and meaningful for fans. Zag and Pierre-Antoine Capton of Mediawan are thrilled to see their vision for a feature film become a reality with these new additions to the project.

Miraculous Ladybug Sequel Lands Despicable Me Producer & Rick and Morty Writer

I recently met the two new team members joining the *Miraculous* project, and they both have incredibly impressive backgrounds. Cohen, who’s currently working on *Angry Birds 3* – scheduled for release in December 2026 – told me he’s been a huge fan of *Miraculous* for years. He feels it’s a rare franchise that truly connects with audiences, blending compelling characters, humor, action, and positive messages. He even pointed out how *Miraculous* has become a global phenomenon, uniting fans from cities like Paris, São Paulo, and Seoul. Roller, the other new hire, shared his excitement about taking these heroes forward. He’s particularly drawn to how *Miraculous* manages to combine large-scale superhero action with very human stories about love, trust, and all sorts of relatable emotions, which he sees as a fantastic opportunity for a storyteller.

Although fans are looking forward to the sequel, its release has been pushed back multiple times. Originally planned for 2026, it’s now expected in 2027. Details about the new film are limited, with some concept art released in 2024 being the only official glimpse so far. The story will reportedly take place, at least in part, in Paris. The first film, a successful superhero musical released in 2023, earned over US$40 million in Europe and was notable for being the first of its kind with a female lead, all set in Paris.

I’ve been following *Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir* since it first aired in 2015, and it’s amazing to see how popular it’s become – it’s broadcast in over 120 countries! I recently attended the 10th-anniversary celebration, put on by Capton, where they shared exciting plans for the future. They promised the next decade will be filled with fresh stories, new settings, and even more films, all while maintaining the same quality and passion that fans love. It was great to see creator Thomas Astruc and designer Nathanaël Bronn there as well.

The sixth season of *Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir* also launched in 2025, bringing with it several updates, such as redesigned costumes.
