New merchandise for the movie *Avengers: Doomsday* has given fans a first look at the Fantastic Four’s costumes. The team has moved away from typical Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero outfits and adopted a more classic style. These colorful blue and white designs are inspired by the heroes’ original comic book appearances and fit the retro-futuristic, 1960s vibe of the *First Steps* version of Earth-828. However, it’s possible these costumes won’t be their final look.
Recently revealed official merchandise given to the cast and crew of *Avengers: Doomsday* provided the clearest look yet at the new costumes for many of the movie’s characters, including the Fantastic Four (as reported by DanielRPK). The Fantastic Four, who debuted in the MCU this summer, will return in *Avengers 5* next December, and it appears only one member will be wearing the same costume as before.
The Fantastic Four, after starting their story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in different realities, will join the main timeline (Earth-616) and other universes in the 2026 film *Avengers: Doomsday* and the 2027 film *Secret Wars*. These two movies will feature the Avengers teaming up to fight Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., who is a major enemy of the team in Marvel comics.
Because the initial image wasn’t very clear, the details of the four new costumes aren’t easy to see. However, it’s clear that Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards is now wearing a new white jacket with a blue collar, which appears to be over the blue outfit he first wore in the popular 2025 film.
Similar to her co-star, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm appears to have a new jacket for the upcoming adventure, but it’s colored differently than Reed’s.
Joseph Quinn’s portrayal of Johnny Storm features a more vibrant blue color scheme and a noticeably longer hairstyle compared to his look in *The Fantastic Four*, reflecting the four-year gap between the films.
It seems Reed didn’t have enough time to create a new costume for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Ben Grimm. He’s currently the only member of the Fantastic Four still wearing the outfit fans saw earlier this year.
The white color of Reed’s new jacket gives his outfit a look similar to a lab coat, highlighting his intelligence and scientific nature.
Reed Richards designed the new costumes for his superhero team because a four-year gap occurred between the main events of *The Fantastic Four* and the scene after the credits. This suggests the team may have been wearing these suits as their regular outfits for a while.
I think he might have made those jackets to get the team ready for traveling through the Multiverse. After all, they wouldn’t have any clue what conditions to expect when jumping between universes, so it’s a smart precaution!
These new costumes likely reflect a stylistic decision by the directors of *Doomsday*, The Russo Brothers, to update the classic ’60s suits and make them more consistent with the look of heroes from the Earth-616 universe, whom the characters will soon encounter.
Since *Avengers: Doomsday* isn’t scheduled to release until December 18, 2026, and these costume designs aren’t from actual filming, they might still be adjusted slightly before the movie comes out. This is especially true for The Thing, who is a computer-generated character – his final look is still being developed and may differ from what we’ve seen so far.
The Fantastic Four Will Play a Key Role in Avengers: Doomsday’s Story
Following a hint in the post-credits scene of *Thunderbolts*, the Fantastic Four will be traveling from the 1960s (Earth-828) to the present day (Earth-616) in *Avengers: Doomsday*. It seems they might be looking for Franklin Richards, a very young and incredibly powerful child, who could have been taken by Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., to use as a weapon. This was suggested in *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*.
Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Reed Richards hasn’t had a long-standing conflict with Victor von Doom like in the comics, taking his son could easily spark a bitter rivalry and intense hatred – potentially setting the stage for a catastrophic showdown.
Furthermore, Reed Richards’ intelligence will likely be a huge asset to Earth-616’s heroes, helping them understand the current conflict and navigate the Multiverse, especially since he’s already proven he can travel between universes.
It’s unclear what will happen with the Fantastic Four, but the team is expected to break apart as the current conflict continues. This could open the door for exciting team-ups with heroes from other corners of the Marvel universe, and rumors suggest we’ll see the Thing (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Red Guardian (played by David Harbour) fighting together.
