For years, fans have hoped to see a third Amazing Spider-Man movie starring Andrew Garfield. Now, the actor has finally shared a clear answer about whether it will happen.
Andrew Garfield says The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is ‘not happening’
Sony’s two Amazing Spider-Man movies continue to be a popular topic among Spider-Man fans. While the films received varying reviews, many viewers connected with Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker, earning him a dedicated following. After his unexpected return in the 2021 film *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, fans launched the #MakeTASM3 campaign online, hoping Sony would produce a third movie to complete the series.
In a recent GQ interview, Andrew Garfield finally responded to the ongoing speculation about a third *Amazing Spider-Man* movie. When asked if one was secretly being made, he said, “It’s not happening, and I don’t think it ever will,” but added that he appreciates fans wanting it.
As a big Spider-Man fan, I remember when we were all anticipating *The Amazing Spider-Man 3* back in 2016! Marc Webb was going to finish his Spider-Man story with it, and Sony was already planning a fourth film and even spin-offs like *Sinister Six*. But things fell apart after *The Amazing Spider-Man 2* didn’t quite hit the mark with critics, even though it made a lot of money worldwide. Then came the infamous Sony hack, and ultimately, a deal with Marvel. That meant Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man had to step aside to make room for Tom Holland’s debut in the MCU – a change that, looking back, totally reshaped the Spider-Man universe!
Ever since then, fans have continued to cherish Garfield’s portrayal of the character, and his performance has gained renewed appreciation. His appearance in *No Way Home* gave his version of Peter Parker a satisfying conclusion, which many viewers felt was a redemptive moment for both the character and the actor who played him.
Despite Andrew Garfield’s denials about appearing in another Spider-Man movie, many fans aren’t convinced. He previously hid his role in *No Way Home* for a long time before ultimately being in the film. Now, with Marvel planning *Secret Wars* and exploring more multiverse stories, fans are hopeful that his version of Spider-Man, often called Peter #3, could return.
