Denise Gough, who plays Dedra Meero in Andor, recently clarified a popular fan theory about her character and Syril Karn (played by Kyle Soller). She confirmed the true meaning of a scene from Andor Season 2, definitively disproving the rumor.
At a recent fan event, actor Gough discussed the death of Syril Karn in *Andor* Season 2, Episode 8. He addressed a widespread fan theory suggesting that when Syril jumped in front of Cassian, who was about to shoot Dedra, he actually did so to protect her, not Cassian.

I was really surprised to learn that Syril wasn’t acting out of love for Dedra. They *were* together during *Andor*, though it was a pretty messy relationship. Apparently, Syril had no clue Cassian was even pointing a blaster at Dedra at that time, but even if he *had* known, the creator said he wouldn’t have given a damn.
Syril was primarily focused on Cassian. He’d been consumed by thoughts of him for so long that when Cassian was near, he completely forgot about Dedra.
Some viewers thought Syril jumped in front of Cassian to protect Dedra, but that idea felt unnecessarily bleak. It was pretty clear throughout the show that Dedra didn’t value Syril’s life, so him sacrificing himself for her would have been a really depressing turn of events.
The events surrounding Syril and his reasons for acting are just as troubling as anything else in the story. The fact that his intense focus on Cassian ultimately led to Cassian’s death is deeply upsetting, even understanding that Syril wasn’t a particularly good person. It reveals just how disturbed Syril was, and how his obsession proved to be the most dangerous thing in his life – a significant statement given the dangerous world he lived in under the Empire.
You can now watch Season 2 of Andor on Disney+. Many fans and critics hailed it as one of the best Star Wars shows ever made, and it received 14 Emmy nominations, winning five of them.
Is Andor Really Over?
The development of *Andor* was quite complex, and the number of seasons planned for the show changed several times during its creation. Given the strong positive response to both seasons, it’s natural to question whether the story will continue beyond this point within the Star Wars universe.
Simply put, Andor won’t be returning for any more seasons. The story has concluded, intentionally ending right before the events of Rogue One, where Cassian Andor’s story ends.
Originally, the show was intended as a five-year story, detailing the events before the film *Rogue One*, with each season representing one year. However, Tony Gilroy ultimately decided a second season, dividing each year into three-episode blocks, would be a more effective approach.
Many TV shows are initially planned for a certain length, but if they become popular, networks often ask for more episodes. However, that wasn’t the case with *Andor*, and that’s a positive thing. As the show’s creator has said repeatedly, extending it over multiple seasons would have likely diminished its impact. *Andor* was a compelling series, but it told its complete story and won’t be returning for future seasons.
