It’s been almost two and a half years since the shocking ending of *Fast X* hinted at what was to come in *Fast and Furious 11*, but we still haven’t gotten any closer to seeing the final movie. Ever since Vin Diesel’s character, Dom Toretto, drove off an exploding dam with an uncertain fate, fans have been eager to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, recent news suggests the next installment is facing delays and isn’t moving forward as planned.
I’m definitely disappointed to hear this news – I’m a huge fan of the series! – but I think it might actually be a good thing for *Fast and Furious 11*, everyone working on it, and the future of the franchise. It might sound strange, but let me explain my reasoning…
Let’s Be Real, The Fast And Furious Franchise Has Gotten Too Insane In Recent Years
I’ll always support Dom and the team, but I think the *Fast & Furious* saga should have ended with *Furious 7*. While the later movies have been financially successful, they haven’t been as good or realistic. I enjoy over-the-top action, but it feels like the series has become too far-fetched and lost its way.
Honestly, as a movie fan, I keep asking myself, did we *really* need all that? Space battles? Cars dodging missiles? And villains suddenly popping up just to explain the plot? It felt… unnecessary. But, I’m holding out hope that things can change, that filmmakers will start prioritizing story over spectacle.

Fast And Furious 11, With A Smaller Budget, Could Make For A More Grounded Conclusion
According to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal, Universal Studios is planning significant cuts to the budget of the next *Fast & Furious* film, potentially reducing it by $140 million. This is a substantial decrease compared to the $300 million-plus budget of *Fast X* reported by The Hollywood Reporter in 2022. While it’s unclear if these reports about the franchise’s conclusion are accurate, a lower budget could actually be a positive thing if handled well.
Given the apparent budget cuts, it seems director Louis Leterrier, Vin Diesel, and the team will need to find a more realistic way to conclude the franchise, as they likely won’t have the funds for the large-scale stunts and elaborate sets that have defined recent films. A smaller story, focused on core characters and themes, could actually be a great way to finish things off.

I’d Be Down To See The Franchise Go Back To Its Roots
I recently read that Jordana Brewster, who’s been in the *Fast & Furious* movies from the beginning, wants to revisit the vibe of the very first film from 2001. And honestly, I totally agree with her! It would be amazing to go back to what made the original so great.
Look, I’ll be honest – I love seeing the *Fast* family jet around the world and pull off crazy heists. But I really think *Fast 11* could be amazing if they went back to their roots. Imagine a story set right here in LA, something a little smaller in scale, and focused on the characters and their relationships. That’s what got me hooked on these movies almost 25 years ago, and I think it’s time to bring that back, Dom!
Honestly, no matter what they end up calling the next *Fast & Furious* movie, or what happens in it, I’m already counting down the days! I’ll be in the theater, seatbelt fastened, ready for whatever wild ride they come up with next.
