How Many Other DCU Movies Will James Gunn Direct After Man Of Tomorrow? ‘I May Get So F–king Tired’

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has finished working on the second season of *Peacemaker*, and he’s said that this is where the story currently ends for John Cena’s character. While promoting the season, Gunn discussed his plans for future DC movies, revealing his overall creative direction and hinting at which films he might direct himself. He confirmed that *Man of Tomorrow* is the first step in a larger plan, but whether he continues directing will depend on his ability to maintain the current workload.

James Gunn recently spoke with *Deadline* and shared that he’s already decided on his next DC projects. However, he also acknowledged that he might need to slow down eventually due to fatigue. He told the publication:

I’ve been developing the idea for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ for quite a while now, and I already have a clear vision for the next several projects I’ll be directing. This is all part of a larger, interconnected story within the DC Universe. While I want each film to be enjoyable on its own, there’s a grander narrative unfolding, something like a saga of redemption, that will tie characters like Rick Flag, Lex Luthor, and Superman together.

This larger narrative will connect characters and storylines from *Peacemaker*, *Creature Commandos*, and the next *Superman* movie, serving as the central thread for DC’s *Gods and Monsters* era. This focus on interconnected stories is similar to how James Gunn approached the *Guardians of the Galaxy* films at Marvel. However, this time the scope is much larger, and the story feels more directly connected to Gunn’s own vision. He explained further:

I have plans to direct a few more movies, though I’m pretty exhausted right now. I might not have the energy to follow through, but that’s the goal at the moment.

The director might be involved with multiple upcoming DC projects, but only if he doesn’t get overwhelmed. I suspect the lack of news about *The Brave and the Bold* and the rumors surrounding Andy Muschietti’s involvement stem from James Gunn wanting to personally oversee the next Batman movie. This is just a hunch, based on how passionately Gunn has spoken about his fondness for all different versions of Batman.

HBO Max offers a wide range of entertainment, including popular DC shows like Superman and Peacemaker. Monthly plans start at just $9.99 (with ads), and different subscription levels unlock thousands of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and more. Check out the current deals!

Though he’s now taking on a leadership role as an executive producer, helping other filmmakers, the director said he’s still learning how to combine his creative ideas with the responsibilities of that position. He definitely intends to remain heavily involved in the most important upcoming stories within the DC universe, but it’s unclear what that means for his potential to direct DC films in the future.

Currently, everyone is excited about *Man of Tomorrow*, scheduled for release in 2027. *Supergirl* will launch the DCU’s film lineup in 2026, followed by *Clayface* later that same year. After that, the future depends on whether James Gunn has time to rest before starting his next big project. You can enjoy the DCU content Gunn has already created by subscribing to HBO Max.
