After set photos and videos revealed John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming TV series, more images have given fans a better look at his portrayal of the iconic wizard. The photos also feature a character who, despite being crucial to the story, wasn’t given enough screen time in the first *Harry Potter* movie.
New photos seem to answer a question fans have had since images of John Lithgow appeared online: why is he at the beach? The photos show Lithgow, playing Dumbledore, talking with Nicholas Flamel and his wife on the coast. Flamel is famous as the creator of the Philosopher’s Stone (or Sorcerer’s Stone, depending on the edition) from the first *Harry Potter* book. Importantly, this will be the first time Nicholas Flamel appears on screen in the main *Harry Potter* films, though he was previously portrayed by Brontis Jodorowsky in the *Fantastic Beasts* movie, *The Crimes of Grindelwald*.
What’s really capturing fans’ attention is the theory that director Alejandro Jodorowsky himself played the alchemist in this version, which would create another surprising link to the rest of the franchise. This has also led to many requests for Jude Law to return as Dumbledore in future flashback scenes. While that seemed impossible before, anything feels possible now. Check out the newest pictures below.
The ‘Harry Potter’ TV Show Is Expanding on the Movies and the Books
The new *Harry Potter* series seems to be including details that weren’t possible in the films due to time or money. It also looks like the show will be fleshing out parts of the books that were previously unclear or not fully explored, as suggested by recent filming.
In the books, Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel achieve immortality with the Elixir of Life, which can only be created using the Philosopher’s Stone. When Harry destroys the Stone, the Flamels peacefully accept their eventual deaths. The books primarily reveal this through Dumbledore explaining the situation to Harry, rather than showing it directly. The movie will likely depict a more emotional farewell between Dumbledore and the Flamels as the story concludes.
Ever since the new *Harry Potter* show was announced, many people have questioned why another reboot is necessary so soon after the movies ended just over ten years ago. While it’s still not entirely clear why we need another version, exploring storylines that go beyond the original books might give the show a reason to exist.
