The release of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, has hit another snag as the franchise tries to regain momentum. The film is now available for digital purchase and will soon be on Disney+, but it doesn’t seem to be performing as well as Marvel and Disney hoped. While *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* received generally positive reviews and did okay at the box office when it was released in July, recent less-successful Marvel movies have made fans more hesitant to pay to watch it digitally. Instead, many are waiting for it to become available on Disney+, and that’s reflected in the film’s performance on digital streaming charts.
When *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* became available to rent or buy digitally, it quickly became the most popular title on major streaming platforms like iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play. However, it’s now been knocked off the top spot on all three. Zach Cregger’s *Weapons* is currently number one on both iTunes and Amazon, and *A Minecraft Movie* has surprisingly climbed back to the top on Google Play. But *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* hasn’t just fallen to second place – its performance is much worse than that.
Currently, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* is number four on iTunes’ digital streaming chart, following *Weapons*, *Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale*, and *F1*. On Amazon, it’s ranked lower, behind films like *Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning*, *Jurassic World Rebirth*, *Materialists*, and the live-action *How to Train Your Dragon*. While *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* has been successful, earning $518 million globally, it didn’t reach the billion-dollar mark that Marvel Studios typically achieves with its blockbusters.
The Fantastic Four Will Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Disney
Fans were eager to find out when the Fantastic Four would appear in another Marvel movie after seeing The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Considering it took years to bring these characters into the MCU, it’s good news that Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are all returning for Avengers: Doomsday.
Filming has finished on the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which is planned to come out in December 2026. But before that, fans can look forward to a new Spider-Man movie, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, in July 2026, starring Tom Holland. This will be his fourth solo film. He’ll also be joining 21 other heroes in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* movie, which will conclude the current storyline of the MCU Multiverse before the *Secret Wars* saga begins.
