As the release of *Zootopia 2* approaches, co-director Jared Bush has addressed a long-standing fan theory about the movie’s villain. In a recent post on social media, the creative head at Walt Disney Animation Studios confirmed details about Nick Wilde’s family in the sequel, effectively disproving a widespread rumor.
Nick Wilde’s family won’t be in Zootopia 2
On September 29th, Bush held a quick question-and-answer session with fans on X, formerly known as Twitter. One fan asked about characters in the upcoming Zootopia 2, specifically Nick Wilde’s father, who is voiced by Jason Bateman. While Bush didn’t share details about the movie’s characters, he did say that Nick Wilde’s family won’t be central to the story.
The co-director of Encanto clarified that the film doesn’t delve into Nick’s family history. This effectively debunked a fan theory suggesting Nick’s father would be the main villain in a potential Zootopia 2.
After seeing the trailer for the new movie, many Disney fans guessed that Nick Wilde’s father would be the villain. The trailer showed Nick and Judy Hopps encountering a shadowy figure with glowing eyes, and fans noticed a strong resemblance between this figure and Nick. This led them to believe the figure was likely the father of Nick Wilde.
Bush has proven this idea isn’t true, which has only made the question of who the real villain in Zootopia 2 is even more puzzling. Because the first movie had a surprising villain reveal, Disney might do the same thing in the sequel.
At the time of writing, Zootopia 2 is on track to hit theaters on November 26, 2025.
