‘Scream 7’ Newcomer Teases the Star-Studded Return of the Iconic Slasher Franchise

As a horror fan, I’m really looking forward to the seventh Scream movie, hitting theaters February 7th! The excitement around this franchise is always palpable, and it’s especially cool to learn that Mckenna Grace – you probably know her from The Handmaid’s Tale and the recent Ghostbusters films – is joining the cast. While details are being kept tightly under wraps, she’s hinted at how amazing it was to be on set, saying it was a dream come true to work with characters she’s been watching since she was a kid. It sounds like Scream 7 is shaping up to be something special!

Recently, Grace spoke with Collider as part of their Ladies Night interview series. Her experience in horror films is well-known, with credits including Annabelle Comes Home, Malignant, and Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, to name a few. However, becoming part of the Scream franchise was a completely new experience for her. She was so enthusiastic that she specifically asked to visit the set after finishing her own scenes, eager to see the return of the popular cast:

Wow, it was so surreal! I was filming Regretting You right after I finished Scream. They were still shooting Scream, and I went to visit the set. I just sat and watched Sidney PrescottNeve Campbell – perform, and it was mind-blowing. Seriously, just being on set with her was incredible! I was completely starstruck.

Having worked on many horror projects early in her career, Grace has a deep understanding of the genre, and her characters have faced every common horror storyline. However, she explains, “there were a lot of horror filmmaking firsts that I cannot say yet.” One of these “firsts” involved something unique about her voice:

I actually lost my voice, which had never happened before… It was amazing! All the yelling and screaming required for those kinds of movies did it. But yeah, I lost my voice, and then the very next day, I had an audition for a huge musical, and I thought, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. Seriously?’

Despite the first Scream film coming out 20 years before she was born, Grace was asked if she knew the movies. Based on what she said about the scenes she liked best, it’s clear she’s a big fan of the series:

Wow, the kitchen in the first movie is just so large and unforgettable. And Sidney’s whole house from the first film is really memorable, too. Or even the opening scene with Drew Barrymore, when she’s making popcorn in the kitchen – it’s iconic. Was it the second or third movie when Sidney was in a play and they had that huge scene? That was wild. That part really stuck with me because it was, like, so… Ugh!

Mckenna Grace is joining the Scream series, along with new cast members Isabel May, Joel McHale, Ethan Embry, Anna Camp, and Asa Germann. The film will also feature returning favorites like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Good, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Interestingly, David Arquette, Scott Foley, and Matthew Lillard are reprising their roles despite their characters’ deaths in earlier films.
