Adam Sandler Reacts to Oscar Buzz for Jay Kelly

The comedy drama has been highly praised by critics. Now, Adam Sandler, a celebrated Hollywood actor, has spoken about the Oscar talk surrounding his performance.

“That’s really kind of everyone to say,” Sandler told People. “I’m just glad I was able to be a part of it. Noah Baumbach wrote it and really brought everything together, getting great performances from the whole cast, and I’m proud to have been involved.” The film is directed by Baumbach, who co-wrote the screenplay with Emily Mortimer, and follows her as she embarks on a trip to Europe.

Accompanied by his manager, Ron Sukenick (Sandler), Kelly’s journey soon turns into something completely unforeseen for both of them. According to the movie’s official synopsis, “Along the way, both men are forced to confront the choices they’ve made, the relationships with their loved ones, and the legacies they’ll leave behind.” The film is scheduled to be released in theaters in November, following its premiere at the 82nd Annual Venice Film Festival.

The impressive cast of Jay Kelly also includes Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Grace Edwards, Jim Broadbent, Patrick Wilson, Greta Gerwig, Isla Fisher, Tom Francis, Louis Partridge, Emily Mortimer, Josh Hamilton, Jamie Demetriou, Nicôle Lecky, Lenny Henry, Thaddea Graham, Stacy Keach, and Riley Keough. Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an average score based on almost 50 reviews from verified critics.

George Clooney Has Praised Sandler’s Performance

In early August, George Clooney spoke highly of Adam Sandler’s latest work. “This film, more than any other Adam has made, truly highlights his talent as a beautiful, heartfelt, and soulful actor,” Clooney stated. He then shared his experiences working with Sandler on set.

I repeatedly told the actors, ‘Don’t refer to him as Sand Man. Don’t treat him like he’s simply a silly comedian.’ He’s truly a talented and wonderful actor. The issue is that, due to the large salary he earns from doing broad, comedic films, when he takes on more serious roles, like in Uncut Gems, it draws attention to that previous work. He’s much more than just a funny man,’ Clooney added.

Jay Kelly is currently set to debut in theaters on Nov. 14.
