Here Me Out: Task Season 2 Would Be Great, But There’s A Crossover I Already Want Even More

I’ve watched a lot of great shows that came out this year, and as 2025 nears its end, I’ve found a new favorite. HBO’s recently released Task is a limited series starring Mark Ruffalo as the leader of a team investigating a series of robberies targeting drug operations around Philadelphia. The show was created by Brad Ingelsby, and I’ve been completely hooked so far. I’m already hoping for another season, but I have an even bigger idea – a crossover event!

There’s An Excellent HBO Series I’d Love To See Task Crossover With

Those familiar with Brad Ingelsby’s work might anticipate where this is headed. A few years back, Ingelsby created the acclaimed limited series Mare of Easttown. Featuring Kate Winslet in the lead role as Mare, the seven-part show centers around a police detective solving the murder of a young mother. The series received widespread praise from critics, earning multiple Emmy nominations in 2021, and ultimately winning awards for Winslet, along with her co-stars Evan Peters and Julianne Nicholson.

I’ve been really wanting another season of Mare for years, but after watching Task, I’d be thrilled to see a crossover episode – and it actually makes a lot of sense. First, both shows take place in different areas of Pennsylvania – the characters’ accents pretty much confirm that! They also share a similar dark and realistic atmosphere. Plus, both limited series heavily feature legal drama, which would make it simple to connect the storylines.

As a movie buff, one of the things that really excites me about this potential pairing is imagining Kate Winslet’s Marianne “Mare” Sheehan and Mark Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis sharing a scene. They’re both really committed to upholding the law, but they approach things in such different ways. (Let’s be real, they’re both a little chaotic too!) I can already picture Brandis and Sheehan butting heads now and then, but honestly, with their combined skills, I have no doubt they’d crack any case. And, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to see a show with Ruffalo and Winslet leading the charge? It just feels like magic waiting to happen. I’m already hooked!

What Are The Chances Of A Task/Mare Of Easttown Crossover Actually Happening?

I understand it seems unlikely that we’ll see characters from Mare interacting with those from Task. However, I’m hopeful because Brad Ingelsby hasn’t dismissed the possibility of bringing these shows together. He discussed with THR the potential for Mare and Tom to meet, and although he “[doesn’t] have a crossover story planned,” he “really likes the thought of their universes colliding.”

Putting all other considerations to one side, many viewers are still hoping for another season of Mare of Easttown, and several people involved have talked about whether it might happen. Back in 2021, Kate Winslet mentioned that they had started brainstorming ideas for a Season 2, but she wasn’t certain she could find the emotional strength to reprise her role as Mare. Furthermore, Casey Bloys expressed cautious optimism about continuing Mare in 2022. Although he didn’t make any promises, he indicated he would be willing to consider it if a compelling story emerged and everyone involved could find the time.

Given that Brad Ingelsby usually moves on to new projects quickly, I suspect he’s not currently focused on a second season of Task. However, I believe anything could happen, and I’m going to remain optimistic-even if it’s unrealistic-that Tom Brandis and Mare will eventually share a coffee at the same Wawa.

You can now watch all of Mare of Easttown with an HBO Max subscription. Plus, new episodes of Task premiere on Sundays at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, and they’re also available to stream on HBO Max right when they air.
