FX has confirmed Very Young Frankenstein is happening, ordering a pilot episode and announcing a cast of six actors for the comedy series. The show is based on the classic Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein. News of the spin-off first surfaced in June, and now it’s moving ahead with a talented group of performers, headlined by Zach Galifianakis. While details about his character are currently secret, his comedic skills suggest he’ll play a significant role, possibly Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (or “Fronk-en-steen”), a character famously brought to life by Gene Wilder in the original 1974 comedy horror film.
According to Deadline, Zach Galifianakis will be joined in the cast of Very Young Frankenstein by Dolly Wells (Inside Man), Spencer House (Tell Me Lies), Nikki Crawford (Cruel Intentions), and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley). Cary Elwes, known for The Princess Bride, is also set to appear in the pilot episode, marking his first collaboration with Mel Brooks in over three decades. Brooks is an executive producer on the project, along with his long-time partner Kevin Salter and Michael Gruskoff. The trio previously worked together on Robin Hood: Men in Tights, a comedic spoof of *Prince of Thieves*, in the early 1990s.
