Ana de Armas recently excited audiences in the John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, but a lesser-known role from three years ago showcases a different side of her talent. It’s an R-rated erotic thriller currently available to stream and well worth checking out. What’s especially interesting is that it was directed by Adrian Lyne – the filmmaker behind classics like 9 ½ Weeks, Flashdance, Fatal Attraction, and Indecent Proposal. Given his track record, this film is likely to appeal to viewers who enjoy a more provocative story.
I recently watched Deep Water, the 2022 film adapted from the novel by Patricia Highsmith – the same brilliant mind behind mysteries like The Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train. Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck lead this erotic psychological thriller. Originally planned for cinemas, the movie ended up premiering directly on Hulu due to several delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s been available there ever since. So, if you’re looking to stream Deep Water, you know exactly where to find it!
Inspired by the well-known novel from acclaimed mystery author Patricia Highsmith, Deep Water explores the marriage of seemingly flawless couple Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (Armas) Van Allen. The film reveals the dangerous psychological games they engage in and the consequences for those who become involved.
Ana de Armas Shines in ‘Deep Water’

Hulu
Despite receiving only a 35% critic score and a 25% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Deep Water might still be worth watching. The movie as a whole can feel a little awkward and occasionally relies on familiar tropes, but the lead actress delivers an exceptional performance. Her complex and captivating portrayal of Melinda is both empathetic and unsettling, and ultimately makes Deep Water a compelling thriller that will keep you engaged for around two hours.
Besides Deep Water, which you can find on Hulu, Ana de Armas appears in Ballerina, now available on Starz, and Ron Howard’s film, Eden. Eden is a historical thriller about survival, also featuring Sydney Sweeney, but it didn’t perform well in cinemas earlier this year. While it’s not currently on any streaming services, you can rent or buy it digitally on all VOD platforms. Unfortunately, her upcoming supernatural thriller with Tom Cruise has been postponed with no confirmed release date, meaning it may never be released.
