Matthew Lillard Reveals How Scream Co-Star Skeet Ulrich Landed A Role in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

I can hardly believe it’s been almost three decades since Wes Craven’s original film first hit theaters! I remember being so captivated by the performances, especially from stars like Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich. It’s amazing how much of an impact it had, leading to so many sequels – and I’m really excited for the upcoming Scream 7!

Lillard, returning for Scream 7, is preparing for another film in the series. The next installment, a follow-up to the 2023 supernatural horror film, is scheduled to be released in December and will once again feature Lillard alongside Ulrich. Lillard, recently seen in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, shared with People how the small Scream reunion came about.

Having previously appeared in the 1996 film Scream, Lillard will reprise his role on the big screen in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. He then detailed how Ulrich came to be involved in the cast.

According to Skeet Lillard, when (Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 writer) Scott (Cawthon) was deciding who should play the part Skeet is in, he began searching for someone who fit the description of a man of middle age. Cawthon was also the creator of the original Five Nights at Freddy’s game, which served as the basis for the films.

I remember talking to Cawthon, and he was really curious about Skeet. He asked me, “What’s Skeet like to work with? How is he as a guy?” And honestly, I told him, “He’s a dream.” The guy is genuinely one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. He’s incredibly talented, of course, but what really struck me was how much he cares deeply about his fans.”

The actor also mentioned a shared quality between himself, Ulrich, and Cawthon. “I believe we both connect with fandom through genuine love, admiration, and gratitude,” Lillard explained. “And I think Scott really responds to that, as he feels the same way about his fans. That’s likely why he asked me to participate, and I think I delivered. I’m really proud of my work in the film and can’t wait for audiences to see it,” he added.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Will Have More ‘Jump Scares’

Lillard mentioned that viewers might see some of their suggestions reflected in the film when Five Nights at Freddy’s is released in cinemas. He explained that Scott Cawthon, the creator, and Emma Scott, the director, “paid attention to fan feedback,” resulting in a movie that’s even more frightening than initially planned.

“We’re hoping for lots of jump scares,” Lillard explained. “We want the audience to be immersed in the story and experience a range of emotions, not just learn about the world. We want them to *feel* the movie the way we felt playing the game,” he continued. “I think they really delivered on that vision, and I believe fans are going to be blown away. Overall, I think the sequel is truly excellent,” Lillard said.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 features Josh Hutcherson, Mckenna Grace, Elizabeth Lail, Wayne Knight, and Piper Rubio in its cast. The movie is scheduled to be released in cinemas on December 5th.
