The lead actor in the upcoming 2026 Marvel series, a follow-up to *WandaVision*, says the new show will be even more emotionally difficult to watch than the original. Both *WandaVision* and the *Agatha All Along* series already had many heartbreaking scenes for their characters, but fans can expect even more pain and sadness in the next installment.
Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently discussed the main idea behind his new Disney+ show. As the actor who has played Vision for the longest amount of time in the MCU – spanning 17 years across the Infinity Saga and the Multiverse Saga – Bettany is returning to the role after last appearing in live-action in 2021’s *WandaVision*. His comeback promises to be a significant and exciting new chapter for the character on Disney+.
During a Los Angeles Comic-Con panel with Screen Rant’s Joe Deckelmeier, Paul Bettany explained that the upcoming *Vision Quest* storyline will focus on the theme of “intergenerational trauma.” He hinted that the story will explore complex relationships between fathers and sons, and how they deal with-or avoid-pain, suggesting a deeply emotional return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his character.
This is about how trauma can be passed down through families, particularly between fathers and sons. It involves avoiding difficult feelings and accepting your true self, ultimately leading to self-understanding and acceptance.
Marvel Studios is planning a new series called *Vision Quest* as part of its Phase 6 lineup. The show will follow White Vision as he tries to figure out who he is after the events in Westview, New Jersey. Paul Bettany and James Spader will return, and they’ll be joined by Emily Hampshire, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, and Faran Tahir. *Vision Quest* is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
How Vision Quest Can Outdo WandaVision’s Devastation
Similar to many projects in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, *WandaVision* heavily explored themes of trauma and pain, especially through its main characters. Wanda’s journey – creating a reality to reunite with her family, and then losing it all – pushed her to a very dark place, setting the stage for her next appearance in the 2022 *Doctor Strange* sequel.
The story of Agatha Harkness, as seen in Agatha All Along, centered around themes of pain and loss. She suffered the loss of her son, Nicholas Scratch, and ultimately met her own fate in the series finale. Though there’s a possibility she might be able to avenge her loss and reunite with her son, the emotional weight of loss was a constant throughout her arc.
Vision’s journey forward will focus on him rediscovering who he is and what he stands for, but it won’t be easy. Expect some heartbreaking scenes as he’s forced to confront his past – including the pain of losing Wanda again and again, and memories of his sons (with at least one appearing in the new series). Actor Paul Bettany’s character is set to relive a lot of difficult experiences.
Details about the plot are still a secret, but *Vision Quest* will definitely wrap up the *WandaVision* story on Disney+ with lots of drama, action, and heartfelt moments. The show will revisit some of Vision’s most important scenes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
