This November will be the one-year anniversary of WWE introducing women’s versions of the United States and Intercontinental championships. Chelsea Green was the first woman to win the title, and she worked hard to establish it as a significant championship. She’s now sharing her honest thoughts about being the first champion, and she didn’t shy away from expressing herself.
TopMob recently interviewed Chelsea Green. After nearly a year of watching WWE’s women’s titles evolve, change ownership, and become more prominent, we wanted to hear her perspective. Green began by emphasizing how important it is for WWE to have more women’s championships, given the current landscape.
I’m really glad we added those new championships. For a long time, it felt like we weren’t giving enough of our talented women opportunities to shine. With so many wrestlers across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, and now with brands like ID, Evolve, and LFG, we just didn’t have enough titles to showcase everyone. These new championships have been a great way to get more women involved and give them a chance to appear on television.
Looking back at a list of promising female WWE wrestlers from just three years ago is interesting because so many of those names aren’t as prominent now. We’ve seen new stars like Iyo Sky, Stephanie Vaquer, Lyra Valkyria, Giulia, and Chelsea Green (with her amazing ring attire) really make an impact. Considering how much talent has emerged and how most of the wrestlers from that older list are still active, it’s surprising it took this long for the division to expand with two more championships.
Adding more championships means WWE needs to dedicate more time to women’s matches. Traditionally, women haven’t received the same amount of TV time or premium live event exposure as men, leading to longer gaps between title defenses and the development of storylines. However, if the talent is available to deliver great matches, women deserve more opportunities. Chelsea Green recently shared a similar perspective on the future of the women’s titles.
Honestly, I don’t think we’re utilizing these wrestlers to their full potential. I’d really like to see Giulia wrestling on TV regularly with that championship, and the same for Zelina and Michin – I want Michin to even win the title and be a weekly TV presence. WWE has a lot of airtime, and I believe we could easily find a spot for these championships if we made the effort. It’s difficult for me to say exactly what’s happening creatively, as I’m not involved in those meetings. All I can do is focus on making the title feel important. I’m hoping that by building storylines and generating buzz on social media, we can get these championships the attention they deserve.
Chelsea Green is skilled at making her character stand out and capturing attention when fans watch *Monday Night Raw* (with a Netflix subscription) or *SmackDown* on USA Network. However, WWE has to decide whether to showcase its current champions or the popular wrestlers that fans want to see perform.

Roman Reigns recently made some comments about his future with WWE that are getting a lot of attention, but I believe people are misinterpreting what he meant.
If it were easy to give the women on WWE programming more time, they would have done it already. I’m optimistic that will happen, especially with talented wrestlers like Jordynne Grace joining, and many others developing in NXT or coming from promotions like AAA and TNA. The need for more women’s representation isn’t going to disappear, so finding a solution is important.
WWE performers like Chelsea Green have other avenues to gain recognition, including the new series *WWE: Unreal*. As a wrestling fan, I wasn’t sure I’d like the show, but it actually deepened my appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into pro wrestling, especially seeing the behind-the-scenes reality of performers like Green.
It will be interesting to watch how prominently women are featured in WWE throughout the year, especially as we approach WrestleMania in 2026. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the new Women’s United States and Intercontinental Championships develop and who emerges as champion.
