Marvel Zombies: Riri Williams and Kate Bishop Fates Explained, Did They Survive?

Riri Williams and Kate Bishop were important characters in *Marvel Zombies*, and viewers are curious if they made it through the series’ ending. *Marvel Zombies* began as an extension of an episode from Season 1 of *What If…?*, and it presents a terrifying scenario where a zombie outbreak eliminates many of Earth’s heroes, forcing the surviving Avengers to fight for survival. As you might expect, not everyone who started the show as a healthy human made it to the finale, leaving the fate of some characters uncertain.

In the animated series *Marvel Zombies*, Iman Vellani, Dominique Thorne, and Hailee Steinfeld star as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Riri Williams/Ironheart, and Kate Bishop. These characters, hinting at a future Young Avengers team-up, begin the show by teaming up to survive a zombie outbreak caused by a virus from the Quantum Realm. Because the series is rated R, any character could be killed off violently at any time.

Recapping Riri Williams & Kate Bishop’s Story in Marvel Zombies Episode 1

The first episode of *Marvel Zombies* opens with Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, and Riri Williams traveling towards New York City. When they arrive, they witness a Quinjet crash and go to investigate, hoping to find something helpful. While searching the wreckage, they’re suddenly attacked by a zombified Clint Barton. They manage to escape with a small device and a special arrow, but barely avoid being killed.

The group discovers the device is connected to Project Lifeshot, a final attempt to save Earth from the zombie outbreak. Hesitantly, they decide to travel to Ohio in search of an old SHIELD facility. Along the way, they stumble into a massive fight between Captain Marvel and Ikaris, who have both been turned into zombies. As Captain Marvel and Ikaris fall from the sky, a large group of zombies surrounds our heroes and attacks.

Kate shoots an arrow at Captain Marvel, but it doesn’t work. Captain Marvel immediately responds with a powerful energy blast that destroys Kate. Then, Riri is hurt in an attack, and before she’s overwhelmed, she instructs FRIDAY-controlling an Iron Man suit without a head-to protect Kamala.

While escaping, Kamala is caught in the crossfire of the battle between Ikaris and Captain Marvel, and it appears her friend Riri is hit by the blast. As Blade Knight helps Kamala reach safety, she believes she’s lost both of her friends in the fighting.

Kamala, along with Blade, travels to Ohio and takes the central role in the story of *Marvel Zombies*, rallying the few remaining Avengers to fight the zombie hordes.

Are Riri Williams & Kate Bishop Dead After Marvel Zombies Episode 4?

The Marvel Zombies series culminates in an epic clash between the Hulk, powered by the Infinity Stones, and zombie Wanda Maximoff commanding an army of the undead. Wanda desperately tries to persuade Kamala to stop fighting and join her, and Kamala ultimately reaches out to take Wanda’s hand. This gesture triggers a huge explosion, after which the scene cuts to white. The story concludes with Kamala seemingly safe back in her bed.

When Zenobia Shroff’s character, Muneeba Khan, calls up to Kamala that her friends have arrived, many viewers felt like things were back to normal after the zombie outbreak. Kamala rushes to the door and is overjoyed to see Riri Williams and Kate Bishop, embracing them in a warm hug.

Kamala is thrilled to be out enjoying the city with a friend, even looking forward to a crowded train ride and maybe catching the eye of someone attractive. But everything viewers thought they understood about her is about to shift.

Kamala and her friends are watching a man on the other side of the street, and suddenly Kamala has brief, jarring visions. She sees Riri Williams, very much alive, battling zombies and urgently warning Kamala not to trust what’s happening. The scene abruptly cuts to black, followed by a quick, frightening image of a zombie-like Scarlet Witch screaming.
