Disney+ Finally Adds Star Wars Collection That’s Been Missing for Years

Star Wars fans have a new reason to celebrate on Disney+! The streaming service, which launched in 2019 and is nearing its six-year mark, has just added a highly anticipated collection to its Star Wars library. Disney+ organizes content into collections for popular franchises, and Star Wars already has several, including those focused on the Skywalker Saga, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Disney+ has created a new Star Wars collection called “Lucasfilm Animated Collection,” bringing all of the franchise’s animated series and films together in one spot. The collection’s artwork also commemorates the 20th anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation, which was founded in 2005 to produce projects like *Star Wars: The Clone Wars*.

As we discussed, the new Lucasfilm Animated collection features every project created by Lucasfilm Animation. These projects include:

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Movie)
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Series)
  • Star Wars Rebels: Shorts
  • Star Wars Rebels
  • Star Wars Resistance
  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch
  • Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
  • Star Wars: Tales of the Empire
  • Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld

Notably, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars micro-series, Ewoks, The Story of the Faithful Wookie, and Droids are not included in this collection, as they were not produced by Lucasfilm Animation (those projects were released before Lucasfilm Animation was established). However, it is worth noting that all of those projects are still a part of their own collection titled “Star Wars Vintage Collection.”

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been waiting for this for ages! Disney+ has been missing a dedicated collection of all the animated Star Wars stuff, and it’s awesome they finally added it. Ever since *The Clone Wars* blew everyone away, the animated side of things has really taken off, with more and more projects coming out. It feels like fans have been asking for a central place to find it all, and now we finally have it!

Given how much people enjoy Star Wars animated content, it’s surprising Disney+ didn’t add a dedicated collection sooner, considering they offer many animated collections for other popular franchises.

What Is Next For Star Wars Animation?

The newest animated Star Wars story, *Tales of the Underworld*, premiered in 2025. It’s the third installment in the *Tales* series, continuing the stories told in *Tales of the Jedi* and *Tales of the Empire*.

Although Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t made any official announcements, they appear happy with the success of the *Tales* series. This makes it likely we’ll see more episodes in the future. Following the release of *Tales of the Empire* and *Tales of the Underworld* for Star Wars Day on May 4th, another set of episodes might come out on May 4, 2026, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Good news for fans: a third season of *Star Wars: Visions* is definitely happening! Unlike previous seasons made entirely by Lucasfilm Animation, Season 3 will feature episodes created by studios from around the globe, which is why it wasn’t part of the recent collection. But don’t worry, *Visions* is still a core part of the Star Wars animated universe, and you can expect Season 3 to arrive in 2025.

A new animated series, Maul: Shadow Lord, is in the works. Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025, the show will focus on the character of Maul, as portrayed by Sam Witwer, and is expected to be released in 2026.

Details about *Maul: Shadow Lord* are still limited, but it’s anticipated to continue the story from *The Clone Wars*, picking up about a year after the events of the Siege of Mandalore. Essentially, the story will connect what happened with Maul in *The Clone Wars* to his appearances in *Star Wars Rebels*.

The future of Star Wars animation looks promising, and we can probably expect even more animated projects to be revealed soon.
