The new movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*, features a strong cast, including characters first introduced in *Black Panther*. Following the release of *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever* as part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story of Wakanda continued after the loss of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and new heroes were established. These characters’ journeys will continue in the upcoming *Avengers* film.
The upcoming movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*, has a new release date and will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who are well-known for their work with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will also feature returning stars like Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, and Sebastian Stan.
Avengers 5 Will Return to the MCU’s Wakandan Roots With These Black Panther Characters
Shuri
Following the events of *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*, Shuri (Letitia Wright) will officially join the Avengers as the new Black Panther in the upcoming film, *Doomsday*. Wright had been seen preparing for the role, and has now finished filming her scenes for the movie.
Now that Tony Stark is gone, Shuri’s incredible intelligence and tech skills will be a huge help to the team as they face threats from across the multiverse. She’ll be especially valuable if she can work with other geniuses, such as Reed Richards.
Namor
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Tenoch Huerta played Namor, the ruler of the hidden underwater nation of Talokan. Though he initially opposed Wakanda, Namor’s motivations stemmed from a desire to protect his people. The film ended with Wakanda and Talokan forming an alliance, which could prove important in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Namor’s appearance in the film could also be setting up future storylines. As one of the few mutants currently established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s likely to play a role when the X-Men return in the next Avengers movie.
Huerta recently shared that Namor’s part in the movie will be relatively small. He explained on the show *La Resolana Con El Capi* (as reported by Deadline) that this is due to the film having a very large cast.
The story is shifting, and with so many characters in their twenties, each actor will have a less prominent role. Because the film needs to accommodate a large cast and multiple universes, making it requires less time and effort for each individual involved.
M’Baku
M’Baku, the leader of the Jabari tribe, became king of Wakanda after T’Challa and Queen Ramonda died and Shuri left to travel the world as the new Black Panther. Though he’s often challenged the Black Panther in the past, M’Baku has consistently shown himself to be a dedicated ally and a powerful fighter.
Duke has been seen filming for *Avengers: Doomsday* and is expected to play a key role as the new leader of Wakanda. With Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) as a major villain in the upcoming *Avengers* movie, Wakanda is likely to face new challenges. Doctor Doom has always been interested in Wakanda’s vibranium in the comics, hinting at potential conflict for the nation.
Namora
Namora, a close friend and advisor to Namor (played by Mabel Cadena), opposed the peace agreement with Wakanda in *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*, causing conflict with Namor. Now, with Talokan appearing to be involved in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* movie, it’s likely Namora will also play a role.
Although Cadena wasn’t originally announced as part of the cast for *Avengers: Doomsday*, she was seen with other Marvel Cinematic Universe actors in Bahrain while the movie was being filmed. This suggests she will reprise her role as Namora in the film.
Attuma
Attuma, played by Alex Livinalli, is one of Namor’s key fighters and proved to be a powerful enemy during the conflict between Wakanda and Talokan. Livinalli was seen in photos from the set of *Avengers 5*, suggesting he’ll be returning to the role he first played in *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*.
If Doctor Doom is planning something big involving vibranium, both Talokan and Wakanda will likely be in danger, and both nations might have to mobilize all their fighters to survive.
Bonus: Bucky Barnes
Following the events of *Captain America: Civil War*, Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) went into hiding in Wakanda to heal from HYDRA’s mind control. While there, he became known as the White Wolf and developed a close friendship with Shuri, who designed and built his new arm using Vibranium.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really intrigued by the dynamic we might see in *Avengers: Doomsday*. Now that the Winter Soldier is officially with the New Avengers, it could seriously strain his friendship with Shuri. It all hinges on where Black Panther ultimately stands – whose side will he take when things go down?
