Jimmy Kimmel, known for his strong political opinions on late-night TV, recently went too far with comments about the attempted attack on Charlie Kirk. He falsely claimed the attacker was a supporter of Donald Trump, aiming criticism at conservatives. However, evidence now shows the suspect was actually motivated by far-left ideologies associated with ANTIFA, directly contradicting what Kimmel presented to his viewers.
Kimmel’s False Claim
On his show Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel said things had reached a new low, accusing the president and his followers of trying to distance themselves from the person who allegedly attacked Charlie Kirk. He claimed they were attempting to use the incident to gain a political advantage.

He didn’t stop there. Kimmel also mocked President Trump’s grieving process.
He argued that Trump’s reaction to the murder of someone he knew wasn’t how a mature adult would respond. He compared it to the way a young child might grieve the loss of a pet goldfish.
Both remarks were wildly offensive — but worse, they were flat-out wrong.
The Truth About the Alleged Killer
It’s important to focus on the facts, and the details surrounding Kirk’s alleged killer don’t match what Kimmel reported. Officials have stated the suspect was an extremist connected to ANTIFA, and he even wrote ANTIFA slogans on his bullets before the incident.

The person accused of the shooting wasn’t a typical conservative Trump supporter. They lived with a partner who was assigned male at birth but identifies as a woman. This background doesn’t align with right-wing extremism, but rather seems rooted in far-left ideologies and cultural influences.
While the suspect’s family was reportedly conservative, that doesn’t necessarily mean he shared those same beliefs. People don’t automatically adopt their parents’ political views, and Jimmy Kimmel is well aware of that. However, he still told his audience the opposite, seemingly just to push a political agenda.
Ignorance or Disinformation?
This raises a difficult question: was Jimmy Kimmel simply unaware of the full picture, just repeating opinions he’s always heard? Or was he deliberately spreading false information to mislead viewers and unfairly criticize conservatives?

Honestly, no matter how you look at it, what happened was really disappointing. Jimmy Kimmel went on national television and said something that just wasn’t true. It felt like a personal attack on people who were already hurting, especially those of us who support President Trump. He took a terrible situation and turned it into another opportunity to push his political views, and it was just…wrong.
The Late-Night Echo Chamber
Jimmy Kimmel’s recent comments are part of a long-standing pattern. His show consistently favors left-leaning viewpoints, often praising one side and making fun of the other. He rarely encourages discussion with those who hold different beliefs, and instead presents pre-written jokes to an audience likely to agree with him.

By 2025, late-night TV has shifted away from being primarily about jokes and is now mostly used to promote particular political viewpoints, regardless of their accuracy.
Opinion: A Dangerous Pattern
As a movie lover, I believe in the power of storytelling, and that extends to how we get our information. It really bothers me when someone like Jimmy Kimmel spreads false information, even if fewer people are watching his show these days. It’s not just about getting the facts wrong; it actually makes the problems we’re already facing – the divisions in our country – even worse, and that’s the opposite of what he says he wants. It feels incredibly hypocritical and damaging.
It’s understandable why Kimmel didn’t spend much time discussing the disturbing celebrations of Kirk’s death on platforms like Bluesky, where people openly shared lists of others they wanted to see die. Fully addressing that negativity would require him to criticize those who share his views. Instead, he wrongly blamed conservatives for the murder, protecting his supporters and making the situation even more heated.

Jimmy Kimmel knowingly or unknowingly made a false statement, and that undermines his ability to talk about bringing people together or acting ethically – especially when addressing President Trump.
