Marvel’s Kingpin Actor Wants to Join DC With This Role

I was so excited to hear that Vincent D’Onofrio, who’s amazing as Kingpin, wants to play Swamp Thing! DC announced a Swamp Thing movie as part of their new ‘Gods and Monsters’ plans last year, but details have been pretty scarce. The good news is James Mangold, the director of ‘Logan,’ is going to be directing, so I’m already hopeful it’ll be fantastic!

Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio wants to play DC’s Swamp Thing

I was so excited to hear that Vincent D’Onofrio – you know, the Kingpin from all the Marvel stuff – is really hoping to play Swamp Thing for DC! It would be amazing to see him take on that role, honestly. He’s such a great actor and I think he’d absolutely crush it.

A fan on X (formerly Twitter) posted a picture of Vincent D’Onofrio alongside the Swamp Thing, suggesting he could play the character in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. D’Onofrio responded with a simple, enthusiastic, “Yes, he should.”

A fan inquired if the 66-year-old actor would consider voicing the character Swamp Thing. The actor responded that it would be a challenging and enjoyable role, particularly because of the opportunity to explore the character’s complex and troubled inner life. He described it as an intense part – exactly the kind of role he enjoys.

Vincent D’Onofrio also expressed a desire for a smoother process, especially since he’s currently collaborating with Marvel.

Details about the Swamp Thing movie are still scarce, but James Gunn recently discussed it in an interview with Josh Horowitz. He mentioned that he’d spoken with director James Mangold, though Mangold hadn’t finished a script yet, as he’s been busy with other projects. Gunn indicated they were revisiting the idea.

Earlier in January, Mangold discussed the Swamp Thing project with MovieWeb. He explained that while some properties inspire intense fan devotion, he saw Swamp Thing as a straightforward, atmospheric gothic horror film centered around the duality of a man and a monster. He emphasized he’d approach it as a simple horror movie, even though DC might envision it as a larger franchise.
