Disney Omits 5 Major Princesses from Their Official 2025 Lineup

The Disney+ animated special, *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*, didn’t feature five of the Disney Princesses planned for a 2025 release. The 23-minute story brings together eight princesses to stop Gaston from *Beauty and the Beast* and other villains – Ursula, Jafar, Sir Hiss, and the Evil Queen – from taking over their kingdoms.

This new special continues the story from the 2023 adventure, *LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest*, and brings back beloved voice actors like Jodi Benson, Auli’i Cravalho, Mandy Moore, Jennifer Hale, and Richard White.

LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite premiered on Disney+ on August 25, 2025.

Every Major Disney Princess in Disney+’s New LEGO Special

Ariel

Ariel is a mermaid princess who first appeared in the 1989 Disney film, *The Little Mermaid*. Though she’s the youngest daughter of King Triton, who rules the underwater kingdom, Ariel secretly dreams of becoming human because she’s fascinated by the human world.

Ariel trades her voice to the sea witch Ursula for the chance to become human, but ultimately gets her voice back and defeats Ursula’s plans. The film concludes with Ariel’s father helping her become human for good.

In the LEGO Disney Princess adventure, *Villains Unite*, Ariel faces off against Ursula once more, but this time, both have allies to help them.

Moana

Moana is a key character in *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*, where she uses her fighting abilities to help the princesses overcome Gaston and his forces. Her strong leadership in the LEGO special reflects the courage and bravery she demonstrated in her original animated film.

Moana earned her place as a Disney Princess by saving her people from a lava monster named Te Kā and returning the heart of Te Fiti. Her Polynesian heritage also brought much-needed diversity to the Disney Princesses.

Tiana

Tiana first appeared in the 2009 film, *The Princess and the Frog*. She began the story as a dedicated waitress, but she became a princess when she married Prince Naveen of Maldonia. She earned her royal title by helping him lift a curse that had turned him into a frog.

In the LEGO Disney Princess game, *Villains Unite*, Tiana’s cleverness and optimism help her bring the princesses together. She inspires them to keep fighting against the Disney villains, who are all working together under Gaston’s leadership.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel, the star of the 2010 movie *Tangled*, is another key Disney princess featured in *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*. As the daughter of the King and Queen of Corona, she’s a princess by birth.

In *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*, Rapunzel’s magical hair isn’t just beautiful – she uses it to protect herself and help the team find their way. Her cleverness and ability to solve problems are key to their plan to defeat Gaston, his villainous allies, and the powerful Chernabog.

Snow White

The LEGO Disney Princess special, *Villains Unite*, focuses on Snow White. As the very first Disney Princess – she first appeared in the 1937 film *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs* – it’s fitting that she has a major part in the story.

Snow White discovers Gaston’s wicked scheme first and warns the other princesses about the threat he poses to the kingdom.

Snow White is key to bringing more princesses into the group, and she encourages everyone to stay positive even when things get difficult. Once Gaston and Chernabog are defeated, she takes the lead in rebuilding the kingdom.

Aurora

Aurora, the main character in Disney’s 1959 film *Sleeping Beauty*, is the daughter of King Stefan and Queen Leah. As a princess, her royal family made her the target of the movie’s villain, Maleficent.

Okay, so initially, Aurora wasn’t slated to be in *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*. But the story cleverly brings her in – Snow White’s Magic Mirror essentially calls her in as reinforcements when the princesses realize they’re facing a serious threat from both classic and new villains. Apparently, the Mirror sees Aurora as a real powerhouse, predicting her “unbridled energy will bring the thunder” to the battle. It’s a nice way to add another layer to the conflict and give the heroes a bit more muscle.

Belle

Since Gaston is the main villain in the *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite* game, it’s fitting that Belle is also included, as they were enemies in *Beauty and the Beast*. Belle begins the story as a regular person, but she becomes a princess when she marries the Beast, who is actually a prince under a curse.

The Mirror chose Belle for the task because she knew Gaston well, and it believed her intelligence was the key to overcoming him when trouble arose.

Belle’s intelligence and imagination were key to helping the princesses devise a strategy to defeat Gaston. Later, her kindness and understanding of the villagers played a major role in restoring their town after it was damaged by Chernabog.

Cinderella

Cinderella, who debuted in the 1950 Disney film of the same name, was the second Disney Princess – following her marriage to Prince Charming. She’s remembered for her strength and optimism, even after facing cruelty from her stepmother and stepsisters.

Cinderella was asked to join Snow White and the others as they prepared to fight Gaston’s dangerous army. The Mirror explained that Cinderella was both clever and kind – qualities that would be essential in overcoming the coming evil.

She played a key role in helping the princesses devise a plan to create an artificial sunrise. This clever strategy weakened Chernabog, the bog monster, and successfully transformed him into a harmless bat.

The 5 Disney Princesses LEGO’s Latest Disney Special Omitted

Jasmine

It’s strange that Jasmine, the Disney Princess from the 1992 movie *Aladdin*, wasn’t included in *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*, especially since Jafar – one of the villains in the special – is a character from her story. Interestingly, Jafar even mentions Jasmine’s absence during a fight.

Jafar: ”You’ll be wishing you had a magic carpet… Oh, is Jasmine not here?”

Jasmine is a princess from the city of Agrabah, as she’s the daughter of the Sultan. She remained a princess even after marrying Aladdin, who magically became a prince himself with the help of the Genie at the end of the story.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas first appeared in the 1995 Disney movie *Pocahontas*. She’s an official Disney Princess because her father, Chief Powhatan, was a leader, giving her royal connections.

It’s unclear why Pocahontas wasn’t included in the Disney Princess team-up against Gaston and the other villains. She may have been left out because she doesn’t have a connection to the main villains, or it could simply be due to the special being too short to include everyone.

Merida

Merida first appeared in Pixar’s 2012 film, *Brave*. As the daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor of DunBroch, she quickly became a popular Disney Princess, known for her courage, determination, and skill as a warrior, particularly with a bow and arrow.

Even though Merida wasn’t included in the LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite game, she’s still officially one of the twelve Disney Princesses. She’s also notable as Pixar’s first female lead, and her strong character has made her an inspiring figure for many young people.

Raya

Raya, who starred in the 2021 film *Raya and the Last Dragon*, will officially become a Disney Princess in 2025. As the daughter of Chief Benja of the Heart tribe, she’s a princess by birthright.

Raya is a fantastic role model for kids and teens because she’s incredibly brave and determined. Her experiences in the movie really change her for the better, showing the power of perseverance and courage.

Like Mulan, Merida, and Moana before her, Raya is a modern Disney Princess. What really sets her apart is that she’s a strong, action-oriented hero who can handle anything life throws her way.

It’s a shame Raya wasn’t in *LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite*. Including her would have reinforced her status as an official Disney Princess for fans. Plus, her skills in action and combat would have been a valuable asset to the team.

Mulan

Mulan debuted in the 1998 Disney film Mulan, and she’s a bit different from other Disney Princesses. Unlike most, she isn’t a princess by birth or marriage. Disney recognizes her as a princess because of her bravery – she saved China from the Huns.

As a big fan of both LEGO and Disney, I thought it would have been amazing to see Mulan included in ‘LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite.’ It would’ve been a great way to show diversity! But honestly, I can see why the creators might have hesitated. Mulan’s a skilled warrior, and adding her to the mix could’ve made it too easy for the good guys to beat the villains – and where’s the fun in that?
