One Of The Night Agent’s Key Actors Revealed Why They’re Not Returning For Season 3, But It Might Not Be All Bad News

In the hit Netflix series “The Night Agent,” only Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan were regular cast members in seasons 1 and 2, with Buchanan portraying the exceptional cybersecurity specialist Rose Larkin and Basso starring as main character Peter Sutherland. However, prior to the premiere of Season 3, it has been announced that Buchanan will not reprise her role for the upcoming installment. Both Buchanan and showrunner Shawn Ryan have shared reasons behind her departure, but there might also be some positive developments to look forward to.

During a conversation about her latest TV series titled “Chief of War,” available on Apple TV+, Luciane Buchanan revealed to Deadline that the writers of “The Night Agent” felt there wasn’t space for Rose in Season 3. However, this doesn’t automatically mean the character’s story has concluded.

I’m not going to watch Season 3 of The Night Agent. Although the series has been fantastic, with my role as the lead on an American show being a career highlight, particularly given my background in New Zealand, the writers have chosen to focus on Peter’s story based on the events from Season 2. This means we won’t find out what happens to Rose, but I believe it’s an exciting direction for the show, and maybe one day we’ll see each other again.

More About The Night Agent

Upon the arrival of The Night Agent’s third season, I eagerly anticipate the return of a character from season 2, who I hope will join forces once more with Peter.

Is there a possibility that The Night Agent series could go on without actor Gabriel Basso in the lead role? Here’s what both the actor and showrunner have to say about this scenario.

In the final episode of “The Night Agent” Season 2, Peter and Rose realized that due to the danger involved, they had to part ways. Shortly after, Peter was apprehended. Later, he was freed to function as a dual agent against the enigmatic Jacob Monroe for Night Action. Meanwhile, Rose moved back to California, received a promotion at AdVerse, and visited Noor Taheri who was now resettled with her mother. For Season 3, any challenges Peter Sutherland faces will not jeopardize Rose’s safety.

It’s worth noting that efforts were made to reintegrate Rose Larkin in “The Night Agent” for Season 3. Shortly after the conclusion of Season 2, Luciane Buchanan received a call from the writers who shared their attempts to include Rose in future episodes. They aimed to preserve her character’s significance and avoid reducing her to a secondary role. Buchanan understood this decision, and while Rose may not appear in Season 3, there seems to be potential for her return if the series continues beyond this season. Additionally, Shawn Ryan expressed similar sentiments regarding Rose Larkin’s potential future involvement in the show, as reported by Deadline.

I truly love Luciane, both as a person and as a performer. Just because we’ve reached a certain point in the story of Peter and Rose doesn’t mean their tale is fully concluded. I fervently hope that future circumstances will enable Rose’s return to the Night Agent universe.

After admitting that Peter and Rose’s relationship significantly contributed to the popularity of “The Night Agent,” Ryan commented that due to the way the story for Season 3 had been planned out, there was no fulfilling resolution for Rose. Fortunately, it seems the writers are open to reintroducing her into “The Night Agent” if a suitable chance presents itself in future seasons. However, it remains to be seen if this action-packed series can survive beyond three seasons, as only a small number of Netflix originals have managed to do so.

If such an event transpires, Luciane Buchanan is optimistic that Shawn Ryan and his team will manage to create a small opportunity for Rose Larkin to return, perhaps only appearing briefly. On the other hand, filming for The Night Agent Season 3 concluded in July, and there’s anticipation for more of Fola Evans-Akingbola’s character, Chelsea Harrington, in it. Rather than being included among the 2025 Netflix release dates, the next season is likely to debut the following year.
