It appears that Marvel may have hinted at fans about Doctor Doom potentially slaying a Kang variant in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday”. During a recent event for promotion, attendees noticed a scene reminiscent of a classic comic book illustration.
Here’s an overview of the concept behind the teaser and its potential use in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe ensemble film.
Avengers: Doomsday theory shows how Doctor Doom will kill Kang
In recent story arcs, Marvel has been gradually building up Kang as a central antagonist for the Multiverse Saga. However, with Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Victor Von Doom in the impending Avengers: Doomsday, it seems that Kang’s tenure as the main villain might be short-lived.
At a recent marketing event hosted by Walt Disney Studios in Shanghai, China, Marvel presented an image during their promotional display that was reminiscent of a scene from Secret Wars (2015) #8 comic book. In this panel, written by Jonathan Hickman with art contributions from Esad Ribic and Alex Ross, Doom is depicted triumphantly posing over a skeleton.
In the specific comic issue, what takes place is Thanos commanding Doom to bow before him. However, Doom surprises him by reaching through Thanos’ chest and extracting his skeleton instead. Even though this event transpired between Doom and Thanos, fans speculate that Marvel might depict it differently in the Doomsday storyline.
Doomsday. Since Thanos was eliminated in Avengers: Endgame, it seems extremely unlikely that Doom would ever meet him.
An alternative idea posits that Doom might face a version of Thanos and defeat him, mirroring his comic book counterpart’s actions. This potential scenario could pave the way for the God Emperor Doom, a depiction of him as portrayed in the 2015 Secret Wars comic storyline.
Right now, the production of the movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is happening, with plans to show it in theaters on December 18, 2026.
