Ending The Conjuring Universe And Launching Halloween Season 2025, Conjuring: Last Rites Has A Massive Opening Weekend At The Box Office

In the opening scene of Michael Chaves’ film “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” characters portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren deliver a demonology lecture in a classroom, yet only a handful of seats appear to be occupied. This initial scene implies that the Warrens, renowned paranormal investigators from the horror series, are nearing retirement. However, it’s important to note that this portrayal does not accurately reflect their real-life popularity, as box office numbers suggest they continue to captivate audiences just as much.

The film titled “The Conjuring: Last Rites” is being promoted as the conclusion of the Conjuring Universe, and it serves as the launchpad for Halloween Season 2025. These unique distinctions appear to have propelled it into an immediate blockbuster at the box office. The movie surpassed expectations significantly, shattering records in the process. Here’s the complete Top 10 list – stick around for my analysis afterwards.

The Conjuring: Last Rites Smashes Franchise Records With The 13th Biggest Domestic Debut Of 2025

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the incredible popularity of The Conjuring Universe over the past decade. Excluding The Curse of La Llorona from director Michael Chaves, which even he himself doesn’t consider part of the canon, all eight preceding films in the series have generated revenue exceeding $200 million worldwide at the box office. The passion for these spine-tingling movies is undeniable, and while I wasn’t surprised by the astounding success of The Conjuring: Last Rites, it still left me in awe.

By mid-August, Deadline predicted that the final installment of The Conjuring would open with a weekend earnings of around $35-$40 million. However, it seems they significantly underestimated its success, as per The Numbers, the new horror film has surpassed all expectations by earning $83 million in its first three days at the box office. This impressive debut shatters previous records for the franchise, with the previous best being James Wan’s The Conjuring in 2013, which made $41.9 million in its opening weekend, and the old record for the entire series being Corin Hardy’s The Nun, which began its run with $53.8 million.

In my TopMob review, I gave The Conjuring: Last Rites three-and-a-half stars, not as popular in the franchise so far, but viewers seemed unbothered by the lack of hype and eagerly went to see it. The factors contributing to the film’s massive box office success are unclear – whether it was the beginning of Halloween season, being a finale, general fan enthusiasm, or simply hunger for a big movie after a quiet August – but its success is undeniable regardless of the reason.

As a true cinephile, let me express my awe at the phenomenal success of “The Conjuring: Last Rites.” It’s not just about its impressive domestic earnings – a whopping $83 million in three days from the U.S. and Canada alone. But what truly leaves me spellbound is its international box office performance. The film raked in an additional $104 million from foreign markets, bringing the worldwide total to an astounding $187 million in just one weekend! Now, I don’t have to tell you that’s impressive, especially considering it was made on a budget of around $55 million, making it the priciest production in this series (as reported by Variety). It’s safe to say that “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has set new standards for horror movie success!

In terms of global box office standings, The Conjuring: Last Rites currently lags behind, but is poised for a swift ascent. With roughly $20 million more in earnings, it could surpass the entire big-screen gross of Michael Chaves’ 2021 film, The Devil Made Me Do It. This leap might even occur before its second weekend, making its subsequent performance an intriguing spectacle. If it manages to surpass the $366.1 million earned by The Nun in 2018, it will be a thrilling achievement indeed.

Is there enough time for it according to our plan, considering that numerous genre films, including a fresh Stephen King horror movie expected next week, are scheduled to drop around Halloween? This is certainly an important point to consider.

From Stage To Streaming To The Big Screen, Hamilton Can Still Draw A Crowd

It appears that, regardless of where Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Hamilton is being performed, there’s always a significant amount of interest among audiences. This began when the Broadway production turned into a cultural sensation, not only selling out nearly every show but also winning 11 Tony Awards (including Best Musical), after being nominated for an unprecedented 16 categories. Five years after its initial stage premiere, a recording was compiled and offered to Disney+ subscribers, and it became a major success for the streaming service.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the sensational success, the acclaimed and record-breaking phenomenon called Hamilton has graced our cinemas, adding more prestige to its collection of achievements with impressive box office figures.

Hamilton, both its standard and sing-along versions, can still be watched at home with a Disney+ subscription. Despite this, many people chose to experience it more immersively by watching it in theaters over the weekend. Since the stage recording wasn’t released nationwide, it was only shown in 1,825 locations domestically. Nevertheless, it performed well and earned the second spot in the Top 10 with a box office revenue of $10 million.

By the close of December 2025, it may not make the cut on lists of top performers for that year, but it remains a powerful testament to lasting appeal. Could it pave the way for an official film adaptation of Hamilton in 2030?

Moving forward, this upcoming Friday promises an array of diverse films hitting wide release. Titles such as Francis Lawrence’s “The Long Walk,” Rob Reiner’s “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” and Simon Curtis’ “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” will debut. It remains to be seen how these titles will fare against “The Conjuring: Last Rites” in its second week, as well as secure a place among the Top 10. Don’t forget to visit TopMob again next Sunday for my comprehensive analysis of the box office results.
