Blizzard Beach to Close Again for Seasonal Refurbishment After Summer Operations

I’m excited to share that I will be part of the team temporarily closing down Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach water park this coming fall. The fun-filled waterslides and sparkling pools will host their last splashes on Sunday, September 7, 2025. From Monday, September 8th onwards, we will commence a period of seasonal refurbishment, during which the park will be closed for improvements.

Regrettably, I must admit that we don’t have an exact date set for when the park will reopen again. Moreover, as of now, park hours remain unavailable until the end of November. So, fellow water enthusiasts, let’s cherish these remaining moments at Blizzard Beach and look forward to experiencing its refreshed charm in the near future!

Under the seasonal rotation strategy Disney has been using since the 2020 lockdowns, they switch operations between Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. This means that one water park stays open for visitors while the other is being maintained. By doing this, the company can save resources during less busy times and still handle refurbishments without shutting down both parks at once, ensuring that guests always have access to a water park.

Dual Park Operation Returns for the First Time Since 2019

In simple terms, during the summer of 2025, it was for the first time since 2019 that both water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, were open at the same time. Specifically, Blizzard Beach reopened on May 21, 2025, while Typhoon Lagoon had already started operating from May 1.

Allowing the water parks to operate simultaneously gave guests greater freedom to select their preferred experiences, marking a significant change from previous years when only a single park was operational at any given time.

Timeline of 2025 Water Park Operations

  • During the span of April, specifically from the 1st to the 30th, Blizzard Beach celebrated its 30th anniversary. This celebration was filled with themed entertainment, character meet-and-greets, and unique merchandise that were exclusively available. The event served as a tribute to the park’s history, which began with its opening in 1995.

  • From May 1st through May 20th, Blizzard Beach temporarily shut down for a transition period and maintenance, allowing Typhoon Lagoon to commence its standard summer operation.

  • From May 21st through September 7th, both water parks were open at the same time. This was a notable step back towards the usual schedules seen before the pandemic in terms of water park operations.

No Reopening Date Announced

Currently, there’s no announced reopening date for Blizzard Beach by Disney. Despite being classified as “seasonal,” the lack of operational hours beyond November indicates a prolonged break in service.

For the past few years, Disney has tended to open one water park around November while shutting down the other for renovations. If this pattern persists, Typhoon Lagoon might be closed for refurbishments a bit later in the year, possibly by mid-to-late November. In its stead, Blizzard Beach could open up during the winter season, but Disney hasn’t officially announced any such arrangements yet.

What Guests Should Know

For visitors intending trips during the fall and winter seasons, it’s important to take note that only Typhoon Lagoon will be in operation starting from September 8th onwards.

As a film enthusiast, I’m eagerly sharing that some of Blizzard Beach’s thrilling rides like Summit Plummet, Teamboat Springs, and Cross Country Creek are currently off-limits until we receive further information. If you’re planning to splash into a Disney water park this year, keep an eye on their official calendar and communications for the latest updates to ensure a smooth ride!
