Peacemaker Season 2 Brings Back Beloved Dead Hero With a Twist

Peacemaker Season 2 has introduced an intriguing shift in direction, as Episode 3 unveils an unexpected comeback that alters the show’s flow. This fresh chapter delves deeper into the storyline of an alternate universe and revisits pivotal moments from the past, introducing a well-known character in a way that generates new tension. Alongside this plot twist, the episode lays the groundwork for significant conflicts that will persist throughout the season.

Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag returns in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3

In the third episode of Peacemaker Season 2, the character played by Joel Kinnaman, Rick Flag Jr., pops up twice in unexpected manners.

Initially, the episode depicts Rick Flag Jr.’s situation three years prior, where we find him entangled in relationships with both June Moon and Emilia Harcourt. The flashback underscores the strong emotional bond between Flag and Harcourt, with Harcourt referring to him as her only friend, while Flag contemplates leaving June for her affections.

In a different world’s plotline, we meet an alive Rick Flag Jr., who’s now dating Harcourt in this particular universe. Peacemaker stumbles upon this Flag while investigating the alternate reality, uncovering their romantic connection hinted at earlier when Peacemaker’s brother, Keith, teased Harcourt’s boyfriend for being a marine (a “jarhead”), referencing Flag’s military background. Contrasting the main DCU character, this counterpart is more lighthearted and serves as comic relief in this alternate dimension.

In the sequence preceding The Suicide Squad’s main events, a flashback occurs in Corto Maltese where Peacemaker ended Flag’s life. This revelation offers fresh insights into Harcourt’s current reservations towards Peacemaker. Despite time passing, she still grieves for Flag, who served as both her confidant and romantic partner.

In Episode 3, it’s detailed why Christopher Smith decides to return to his original dimension. After making a difference in another world and forming bonds with Harcourt, he recognizes the need to address outstanding matters in his own reality. Upon his arrival back home, ARGUS agents are present, as they have been investigating surges of interdimensional energy – a consequence of Christopher’s travels.

In addition to Kinnaman’s character, this episode welcomes back Michael Rooker to the DC Universe, but not as Savant this time. Instead, he introduces a fresh character, Red St. Wild, who is an eagle hunter tasked with taking out Peacemaker’s companion, Eagly. This new role marks a departure from his previous one.

This development sets up a conflict with ARGUS in the following episode.
