Lanterns’ Garret Dillahunt Teases DCU Villain Roles

Actor Garret Dillahunt has been confirmed for a role in the forthcoming DC Universe HBO show, “Lanterns,” and hinted at which iconic Green Lantern adversary he could portray.

What character did Garret Dillahunt tease for Lanterns?

On Instagram recently, Dillahunt posted stories that featured speculations from a fan page. These posts suggested potential cast members for the Lanterns, such as Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The fan page also hinted at unconfirmed roles, like Garret Dillahunt possibly portraying Black Hand and Paul Ben-Victor potentially playing Atrocitus. In response, Dillahunt subtly acknowledged the speculations with an emoji. You can check out his reaction below.

For the unfamiliar, Black Hand serves as a formidable supervillain within the Green Lantern universe, renowned for his innovative prowess. He has devised a tool capable of drawing power from the remnants left by a Green Lantern’s ring. Although Black Hand features in numerous tales, he is arguably best recognized due to his presence in the Blackest Night saga.

In simpler terms, Atrocitus – sometimes called Atros – is another formidable antagonist within the universe of Green Lantern. As the chief of the Red Lantern Corps, Atrocitus exhibits extraordinary physical power, intellect, and additional abilities beyond those of an ordinary human.

In my perspective, I’m excited to reveal that I might be portraying William Macon in the upcoming project. This character is a cowboy with a mysterious, self-righteous, and conspiracy-minded personality, but he disguises it all under a friendly demeanor. As for Ben-Victor, he’s set to bring Antaan to life on screen. Antaan is an extraterrestrial who is committed to uncovering the truth and seeking vengeance against those who have harmed his people.

Ever since their introductions, fans have speculated that these characters might ultimately turn out to be disguised as other individuals, with their current names serving as temporary identities for potential plot twists.

The specific release date for Lanterns on HBO Max has not been disclosed yet, but it’s anticipated to premiere sometime in 2026. Meanwhile, other DCU projects such as Peacemaker Season 2 (coming soon next month), Supergirl (set for June 26, 2026), and Clayface (on September 11, 2026) are scheduled. James Gunn’s Superman film is currently showing in cinemas across the U.S.
