It appears that Disney+ has decided to exclude certain popular characters from their promotional materials for the upcoming 2025 MCU movie, Thunderbolts. This film, marking the end of an exhilarating series of projects in Phase 5, introduces a dynamic team of both heroes and antiheroes working together for the first time under Marvel Studios. However, it seems that not all members of this team have received equal attention compared to others.
As a movie enthusiast, I dived into Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts premiere on Disney+ last Wednesday, August 27. Characters like Yelena Belova and Bucky Barnes stepped into the limelight of the Multiverse Saga, giving long-underrated MCU heroes an opportunity to shine brighter than ever before. The promotional materials showcased the team’s hesitant dynamic, setting them apart from the legendary Avengers team. Intriguingly, it seemed that these new heroes had their work cut out for them in proving themselves.
Disney+ unveiled a poster for the upcoming film “Thunderbolts“, showcasing its main characters ahead of its premiere on the streaming platform. Regrettably, not all of the movie’s key cast members are depicted in the poster, with Olga Kurlyenko as Taskmaster and Lewis Pullman playing Robert “Bob” Reynolds noticeably absent from the visual representation.
On at least two occasions now, a poster for the series Thunderbolts has edited out certain characters. A different image from Disney+’s collection also erased Taskmaster from the right side of its depiction.
It’s notable that the latest ad for the Thunderbolts employs visual elements reminiscent of previous posters. However, unlike the old ones, this new version places Bob separately behind U.S. Agent and Bucky Barnes. In contrast, Taskmaster is now flanked by Ghost and Red Guardian.
The last movie in Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 series, titled “Thunderbolts*“, is helmed by Jake Schreier. Featuring an ensemble cast including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and others, this film focuses on a group of unconventional heroes who were once villains. The story revolves around Sentry, one of the mightiest characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they undertake a special task that brings them together. You can catch “Thunderbolts*” now on Disney+.
The Thunderbolts’ Future in the MCU
In the finale of “Thunderbolts,” there was a significant shift for the team as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine rebranded them as the New Avengers, setting the stage for an engaging future ahead. Regrettably, this future will not include Taskmaster, who met an unimpressive end in one of the film’s opening scenes. However, there is still much to anticipate from the team moving forward.
All surviving New Avengers have been officially included in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, a film that gathers numerous heroes from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and legacy teams for an epic fight against Doctor Doom. If there’s no legal issue regarding the Avengers team name, it seems likely that the former Thunderbolts will put aside their disputes with the Avengers, as the survival of the multiverse is at risk.
It’s worth mentioning a whisper suggesting that Yelena Belova might switch sides and ally with Sam Wilson’s Avengers squad. If this comes to pass, it could lead to an intriguing power struggle between the two teams of heroes during the early phases of Doomsday, despite the fact that specific plot details are being kept under wraps for now.
Currently, fans are eagerly awaiting news about when filming will commence for the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, as well as any forthcoming updates that might offer a sneak peek into the film’s developments.
