Everyone is expecting Spider-Man: Brand New Day to be a huge hit when it comes out in theaters on July 31st, especially because of its impressive cast alongside Tom Holland in his fourth movie as Spider-Man. The film features stars like Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink, and Zendaya, but Rosario Dawson won’t be appearing.
Rosario Dawson, known for her award-winning acting and recent work on Ahsoka, was originally going to play Claire Temple again. However, she announced at a San Diego Comic-Con panel that this is no longer happening.
Rosario Dawson: My Role Was Cut From Brand New Day
She announced she’s a fan of Spider-Man and even filmed a cameo for the latest movie – though that scene didn’t make the final cut, according to someone who saw her speak on X (formerly Twitter).
Those who enjoyed the Marvel shows on Netflix will remember Rosie Perez as Claire Temple. She played a key role in the first seasons of Daredevil and Luke Cage, so many viewers were surprised and disappointed she wasn’t included in the later seasons.
As a huge movie fan, this whole situation makes me wonder what they originally planned for her character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. More importantly, I’m starting to think we might see other heroes from those old Marvel Netflix shows pop up in the MCU – and maybe even sooner than we expect! With Charlie Bernthal already showing up as Punisher in Tom Holland’s latest film, it definitely feels like more crossovers could be coming.
Are Daredevil + The Defenders Ready for the MCU Big Screen?
The Punisher isn’t the only former Netflix Marvel star returning for the new Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+, joining forces with Daredevil like they did in Season 1. While he wasn’t in Season 2—and had a good explanation for his absence—another of the heroes from the Defenders team did make an appearance.
After a few years off screen, Krysten Ritter is back as Jessica Jones, reuniting with Daredevil and bringing a big surprise: she’s now a mother! Her daughter’s father is Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, who will also be appearing in Season 3 of the Daredevil: Born Again series – marking his official introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Completing the team will be Finn Jones as Iron Fist.
With Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the Punisher now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like the characters from the old Netflix shows are finding a place in the larger Marvel story. While Claire Temple almost returned, and it’s unclear if Daredevil will appear alongside the Punisher in a future Spider-Man film, it looks like Marvel Studios and Disney plan to continue incorporating elements from the Marvel-Netflix shows into the MCU.
