Tomorrow, July 25th, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender premieres on Paramount+ as the franchise’s first animated movie. While not the first Last Airbender film – M. They shared a trailer for Seven Havens, announced an earlier release date, and revealed two major changes to the show’s format.
Avatar: Seven Havens Will Be The Franchise’s First Show That Won’t Air On Nickelodeon
The new series, Avatar: Seven Havens, is set to refresh the Avatar universe. It will focus on Pavi, an Earthbender who comes after Avatar Korra. The show takes place in a world recovering from a disaster, where the Avatar is seen as a threat instead of a hero. Pavi must work to protect the last remaining cities and find her missing twin sibling.
While Seven Havens will feature a fresh storyline for the Avatar universe, its production is notable for another reason: it’s the first series in the franchise not to air on Nickelodeon. As Ebaster revealed at Comic-Con, Seven Havens will premiere as an original show exclusively on Paramount+. Previous installments, The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, were both broadcast on Nickelodeon because they were created before the rise of streaming services and the launch of Paramount+ in 2021.
Releasing Seven Havens directly on Paramount+ will probably upset some fans, just like when Paramount moved the Avatar Aang movie from theaters to streaming. This decision shows that Paramount and Avatar Studios are committed to focusing on streaming as a key part of their strategy and updating how they release content.
Seven Havens Will Also Release All 26 Of Its Episodes Simultaneously
Paramount announced another detail about Avatar: Seven Havens that some viewers might find worrying. Unlike other recent Avatar series, all 26 episodes of Seven Havens will be released at the same time, instead of being shown one episode per week. Previous shows, The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, used a weekly release format, partly because they originally aired on traditional television on Nickelodeon.
Okay, so I’m really excited for Seven Havens coming out on October 9th! The cool thing is, all 26 episodes are dropping at once – a full binge-release! Paramount hasn’t said why they’re doing it this way, but it reminds me of what Netflix did with their live-action The Last Airbender. However, Seven Havens is different because it has a lot more episodes, and it’s not a remake or adaptation of something we already know. It’s a completely new story with brand new characters, which I think is awesome!
The quick release of Seven Havens might be connected to the recent data leak at Paramount. A similar situation happened with the Avatar Aang movie, which was leaked online months before its release after a security breach. Paramount might be concerned Seven Havens could also be leaked, and is releasing it quickly to try and prevent that from happening.
