Everyone was talking about seeing Rachel Brosnahan in Superman for a while, but I was really excited about another movie she was in. It didn’t get as much attention in theaters, but now, over a year later, I’m so glad it’s on Prime Video – it’s finding a whole new audience, and I’m loving that more people are discovering it!
FlixPatrol reports that the new movie The Amateur has entered Prime Video’s top 10 movies in the U.S. at number seven. It’s also currently tenth overall among all titles on the platform.
After playing in cinemas for about a year and earning $96 million, the film The Amateur is now finding success on Prime Video. While it was released by 20th Century Studios, critics had varying opinions about the movie.
The Amateur Boasts an Impressive Cast
A strong point of the film The Amateur was its cast, particularly Rami Malek. Famous for playing Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot, Malek starred as a quiet CIA codebreaker who decides to investigate himself when his wife becomes a victim in a terrorist attack in London.
Rami Malek starred alongside Michelle Brosnahan, who played his wife, and veteran actor Laurence Fishburne (known for The Matrix and John Wick) as his mentor. The film also featured a strong supporting cast including Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, and Danny Sapani.
James Hawes directed The Amateur. The script was written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, and it’s based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel of the same name. The novel was previously made into a film in 1981, starring Christopher Plummer and John Savage.
Rachel Brosnahan Is Returning to the DCU for Man of Tomorrow
I thought Rachel Brosnahan really shone as Lois Lane in Superman. She had a much bigger role than some might realize, and everyone – the critics included – seemed to love what she did with the character. Plus, her scenes with David Corenswet felt genuinely electric; they clearly had great chemistry together.
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are reprising their roles as Superman and Lois Lane in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow. James Gunn is once again writing and directing the Superman sequel, which continues the story from the first film. Milly Alcock will join the cast as Supergirl.
Details about the story are still under wraps, but the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow will center around Superman working with Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) to defeat the villain Brainiac. Lars Eidinger will portray Brainiac, a highly intelligent alien robot from the planet Colu.
Beyond her role in Man of Tomorrow, Rachel Brosnahan might appear in the upcoming Jimmy Olsen series. The show, which will be a true crime documentary, is also expected to feature other reporters from the Daily Planet.
The first season will center around Gorilla Grodd, often known as an enemy of The Flash. It’s currently unknown if The Flash himself will make an appearance in this new Superman-related series.
The Amateur is currently streaming on Prime Video.
