Apple TV Officially Seals the Fate of The Morning Show After 4 Seasons

Okay, so I just heard some news that’s a bit of a bummer. Apparently, Severance is ending after its fifth season on Apple TV+. It’s getting one more season, which is great, but that’ll be it – the show’s officially wrapping up. I’m going to miss it!

Apple TV has confirmed that The Morning Show will end after its fifth season, which is scheduled to arrive in 2027. The series, which premiered in 2019, was one of the first major shows on Apple TV and played a key role in launching the streaming service. Jennifer Aniston, a star and executive producer, has hinted that the final season will provide a fulfilling ending, as everyone involved knew from the start of production that it would be the show’s conclusion.

The Morning Show Will Officially End in 2027

Jennifer Aniston shared that Apple has always believed in their vision for The Morning Show, and they’re grateful for the chance to tell relevant, and sometimes darkly funny, stories. She described working with the incredibly talented cast and crew as a privilege, saying they’ve become like family. Everyone is thrilled to share the final season, and knowing it would be the last allowed them to thoughtfully craft a satisfying conclusion that truly honors the characters.

As a huge fan, hearing about The Morning Show ending after five seasons is tough! But getting to work on it for nine years – both as an actress and producer – has been amazing, honestly the highlight of my career. It was never just about what happened in the newsroom; it was always about why a free press is so important and honoring the journalists who fight for that, often risking a lot themselves. Being able to tell that story felt like such a gift. I’m incredibly grateful to Apple for believing in us, and to all the writers, crew, and cast – they were truly exceptional and brought this world to life with a realism that really resonated with viewers. It’s been an incredible creative journey, one I’ll cherish forever.

Set roughly two years after the events of Season 3, the new season premiered in early 2024. It delved into the consequences of the UBA and NBN merger, as the newsroom navigated increased pressure and challenges from deepfakes, conspiracy theories, and attempts to conceal the truth. The season also featured appearances by guest stars including Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons.

Several New Stars Have Joined the Final Season

Charlotte Stoudt is the executive producer and lead director of the series. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm all star in the show. Season five will also feature new cast members including Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, Lizzy Caplan, and others.

After five seasons of following these determined journalists as they pursued their ambitions, we’re about to find out what happens next – which personal story each will focus on. Stoudt said it’s been a wonderful experience writing for such a talented and kind group of actors.

Director and Executive Producer Mimi Leder shared, “Leading this series from its very beginning to its conclusion has been the highlight of my career. I’m incredibly proud of the talented cast, crew, and writers who created compelling characters and used their stories to emphasize the importance of a free press and holding those in power accountable. It’s been a truly rewarding experience.”

It’s the End of an Era for Apple TV

Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, said completing the first season was a career highlight. He praised Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Michael Ellenberg, and Mimi Leder for creating a show that captivated viewers, sparked discussions, and led the way in television for five seasons. They also played a key role in launching Apple’s streaming service with their popular series.

He added that The Morning Show has a fantastic cast and crew, guided by the incredible writing and leadership of Charlotte Stoudt. As the show concludes its run, they’re thankful to everyone who helped make it such a successful and lasting series on Apple TV, and look forward to future collaborations with these talented individuals.

The Morning Show is streaming on Apple TV.
