The Punisher is making a big splash again! Just two weeks after it first came out, Marvel’s newest special is once again at the top of the streaming charts.
I’m really enjoying The Punisher: One Last Kill! It’s actually become the most-watched thing on Disney+ right now, both here in the US and around the world, according to FlixPatrol. It had dropped a little in the rankings for a bit after it came out, but it’s back on top now!
The Punisher: One Last Kill Is an Important Win for the MCU
This is a new special presentation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the first one since Marvel started releasing these types of specials in 2022, following Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
“One Last Kill” wasn’t just successful – it’s been well-received by both critics and viewers. It currently has a 74% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences give it an even higher score of 81%.
This news arrives at a key moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has recently been focusing on improving the quality of its projects rather than just releasing a lot of them. Like the highly praised second season of Daredevil: Born Again, this suggests a shift towards more grounded, street-level narratives.
What’s Next for the Punisher in the MCU?
The recent popularity of The Punisher: One Last Kill might be connected to the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. This sequel to Spider-Man will be Jon Bernthal’s debut as the Punisher on the big screen, and it will also be the first time he shares the screen with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Now that Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, has reappeared in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans can likely expect to see him in more Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. While his return isn’t officially confirmed, he’s a strong candidate for future appearances, especially in street-level stories. Rumored projects like Heroes for Hire and a potential second season of Moon Knight could be a good fit for his character.
The Punisher is rapidly gaining popularity and becoming a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Phase 6 wraps up. With the franchise entering a new era, Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the character is expected to be central to Marvel’s future plans.
The Punisher: One Last Kill is available to stream on Disney+.
