The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada has become the top-grossing movie in the U.S., surpassing the sci-fi film starring Anne Hathaway and directed by Christopher Nolan.
The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, premiered in US theaters on May 1st. The film was a major success, becoming the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2026, after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($991 million), Michael ($857 million), and Project Hail Mary ($677 million).
One month after hitting theaters, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has earned $209 million domestically, surpassing Anne Hathaway’s Interstellar ($203 million). Worldwide, the sequel has brought in $666 million, with $456 million coming from international audiences. Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar earned a total of $774 million worldwide, with $571 million from international markets, according to Box Office Mojo.
Surprisingly, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has earned more at the box office domestically than Interstellar. This news comes as Anne Hathaway and Christopher Nolan prepare to release their new film, The Odyssey, on July 17th. Hathaway will star as Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, in this movie, which will be their third project together following The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
In addition to the main cast, The Devil Wears Prada 2 features Emily Blunt, an Oscar nominee for her work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023), and Kenneth Branagh, who has appeared in multiple Christopher Nolan films, including Dunkirk (2017), Tenet (2020), and Oppenheimer (2023).
I’m so excited for The Devil Wears Prada 2! It’s been 20 years since the first movie, and it’s great to see Aline Brosh McKenna and David Frankel back as writer and director. From what I understand, the story follows Andy Sachs – Anne Hathaway, of course – as she helps Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, navigate all the changes happening in the media world. Apparently, Runway magazine is facing some serious challenges with the industry and corporate stuff, and Andy’s there to help Miranda deal with it all.
The new movie features a star-studded cast including Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Simone Ashley, Trace Thoms, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Rachel Bloom, George C. Wolfe, and Pauline Chalamet. Several celebrities also make cameo appearances, such as Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Ciara, Calum Harper, Ashley Graham, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Heidi Klum, Winnie Harlow, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jon Batiste, among others.
Beyond being a hit in theaters, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was well-received by critics, earning a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers especially praised Meryl Streep’s seamless return as Miranda Priestly, noting that the entertaining sequel successfully combined glamorous fun with insightful observations about the modern media world.
Viewers are also enjoying the sequel, giving it an 84% approval rating. They especially appreciate the impressive cast and the heartwarming story, which nicely continues the themes of the first film. The Devil Wears Prada 2 proves that a well-loved movie can be successfully reimagined.
