Square Enix has been updating its classic games—originally made for consoles like the PlayStation 1—for modern platforms. These remakes and remasters not only enhance the graphics but also add features to improve the player experience. A prime example is the ambitious Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, a complete reimagining of one of the most beloved games in the series.
After the current project featuring Cloud Strife is finished, the team will focus on bringing back other classic Final Fantasy games. While some of the newer titles, like Final Fantasy 15, are already good to go, the older games could benefit from being updated and improved.
Final Fantasy 9 Remake Always Seems Just Out Of Reach
As a huge Final Fantasy fan, I’ve been really hoping for a remake of Final Fantasy 9. It’s kinda wild because the game had a bunch of other titles listed as being in development back then, and almost all of those have either been announced or released already. The only one still missing is the Final Fantasy 9 Remake. We’ve seen so many rumors and leaks about it over the years, but honestly, there’s never been anything solid to prove it’s actually happening. It’s frustrating, but I’m still holding out hope!
Man, I’m hearing some worrying stuff about the Final Fantasy 9 Remake. It sounds like it’s stuck in development, which is a real bummer. Seriously, FF9 is one of my all-time favorites, and it deserves a remake. It was made towards the end of the PS1’s life, so a modern update would look incredible. I’m really hoping the new animated series gets people hyped again and pushes this project forward. Fingers crossed we finally get a chance to revisit this classic!
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes Of Light Paved The Way For The Bravely Series
The Final Fantasy series is known for trying new things with its gameplay, but some games deliberately return to the style of the older classics, featuring turn-based combat and traditional character classes. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light was created with this in mind, and it eventually became the foundation for the Bravely Default series.
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light showed a lot of promise, but frustrating difficulty, particularly at the beginning, held it back. Often, characters would act independently or in pairs, creating unnecessary challenges. With some adjustments to balance the gameplay, and updated graphics similar to the later Bravely Default games, this could be a truly great title.
Dissidia 012 Needs To Return To Modern Consoles
A major misstep by Square Enix was changing the Dissidia Final Fantasy fighting games to focus heavily on multiplayer. The original two games were fantastic, offering stories that uniquely united heroes and villains from throughout the Final Fantasy series.
As a big fan of the Dissidia series, it’s always bummed me out that Square Enix hasn’t brought the original games to newer consoles. I get why, though – the graphics from the PSP just don’t hold up when you try to make them HD. What they should do, in my opinion, is remake Dissidia 012 using the awesome character models they made for Dissidia NT and the later games. The fighting itself is already fantastic! To really get older fans like me excited, they could just add characters from the newer entries and maybe throw in some extra story chapters after the main game. That would be amazing!
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Needs The Ivalice Chronicles Treatment
Many fans consider Final Fantasy Tactics a highlight of the Final Fantasy series, and a recent remaster in 2025 allowed new players to enjoy an improved version. Hopefully, the positive reception of The Ivalice Chronicles will pave the way for other classic titles to receive similar updates.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance begins in the everyday world, following four friends who discover a magical book that transports them to Ivalice. This new world seems like a dream come true, filled with adventure and battles where no one gets seriously hurt. However, appearances can be deceiving, as a darker truth lies beneath the surface. The game has been unavailable for many years, originally released on the Game Boy Advance, and fans have been eagerly awaiting a re-release.
Final Fantasy 6 Is Long Overdue For A 3D Remake
For years, Final Fantasy 6 has been overshadowed by the popularity of Final Fantasy 7. Released near the end of the Super Nintendo’s life, it struggled with the console’s technical limitations and Nintendo’s rules about what content was allowed in games.
Final Fantasy 6 has been remastered several times, but fans have been hoping for a complete overhaul with modern 3D graphics for a long time. The game’s world and characters would really shine with a high-budget presentation, and characters like Terra deserve a more detailed look than the original pixelated sprites. If a remake of Final Fantasy 6 is as successful as the original game, it could finally surpass the remake of Final Fantasy 7 and receive the recognition it truly deserves.
Final Fantasy 11 Needs To Not Be An Utter Nightmare To Play
Despite being released long ago, Final Fantasy 11 is still being updated with new content in 2026, and the developers are even adding more options for players who prefer to play by themselves. However, don’t let that fool you – it’s still a complex game that can be difficult for newcomers to pick up.
Playing Final Fantasy 11 today is incredibly difficult. Setting it up feels as outdated as connecting to servers from the Sega Dreamcast era, and it requires a lot of modifications to be enjoyable for new players. However, beneath its outdated design lies a fantastic game and story. Square Enix should really remake it, perhaps in a style similar to Final Fantasy 14.
Before Crisis Is Long Overdue For Localization
Honestly, of all the older Final Fantasy games that could get a remake, the lack of one for Before Crisis really surprises me. It’s a prequel to Final Fantasy 7, and Remake actually references stuff that happens in it! It was originally a Japan-only mobile game where you play as the Turks, and the story focuses on them fighting an earlier version of Avalanche. This Avalanche is led by a seriously dangerous guy who’s trying to destroy the world using a powerful summon. It feels like a missing piece of the puzzle now!
Even in Japan, the original game can’t be played because the servers needed to start it have been closed. Although a portion of Before Crisis will be included in the Ever Crisis mobile game (if that game remains active), a complete experience would require a full remake and an English translation.
Final Fantasy Explorers Deserved Better
The Final Fantasy series would be perfect for a game similar to Monster Hunter, where players battle famous monsters and craft equipment from their remains. Square Enix previously explored this idea with Final Fantasy Explorers on the Nintendo 3DS, allowing players to hunt large creatures from the Final Fantasy universe to gain powerful upgrades.
Unfortunately, Final Fantasy Explorers received poor reviews. The game was generally considered too easy at first, and some of its systems were clunky and made using character abilities frustrating. Despite these issues, Final Fantasy Explorers has a strong core idea, and a remake incorporating player feedback could be excellent.
Final Fantasy 5 3D Needs To Bring Faris To Life
Final Fantasy 5 often gets overlooked by fans of the classic SNES games. This is largely because it wasn’t released in English until the PlayStation 1, by which time its gameplay and graphics seemed dated compared to newer Final Fantasy titles. Over time, as the excitement around 3D graphics faded, the game gained more appreciation and is now considered one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made.
Final Fantasy V is a fantastic and funny game, and fans have been eager to see the beautiful artwork that Yoshitaka Amano created for it – particularly his depictions of the character Faris – brought to life on screen.
Final Fantasy 8 Is Next In Line After Cloud’s Journey Is Over
The leak of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake came as a surprise to many fans. Most people thought Square Enix would remake Final Fantasy 8 after finishing the Final Fantasy 7 remake, as it’s the next game in the series’ number order.
It’s really interesting to revisit Final Fantasy 8 after all this time because it’s just so unusual, both in how you play it and the world it creates. The game is full of puzzling elements, and it’s exciting to think the developers are coming back to expand on it. The only one who might not be thrilled? The actor who voiced Squall, considering what they’ll have to do!
