House of the Dragon Season 3 Gets New Release Date Weeks Earlier Than HBO

The highly anticipated third season of the show will premiere next month on HBO and HBO Max. A select group of fans will get a sneak peek at the first episode, but they’ll need to travel to Sicily to attend.

According to reports, the third season of House of the Dragon will premiere in Italy at the Taormina Film Festival, kicking off the event from June 10-14, 2026. This is about two weeks before the show launches on HBO on June 21st. While the complete festival schedule will be revealed on June 4th, other highlights include the premiere of Russell Crowe’s new action thriller, Bear Country.

House of the Dragon Will Open the Taormina Film Festival

Festival director Tiziana Rocca announced the 72nd Taormina Film Festival would open with a screening of the popular series House of the Dragon. She stated that hosting the show’s cast and offering Italian audiences an exclusive first look highlights the festival’s importance as a leading event for the film and television industry.

I’m so excited for the Taormina Film Festival! It’s held in the beautiful coastal town of Taormina, Sicily, and some of my favorite actors from the new Game of Thrones prequel are going to be there. I can’t wait to see Steve Toussaint, Harry Collett (who plays Jacaerys Velaryon), Bethany Antonia (as Baela Targaryen), and Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen) representing the series!

Season 3 of House of the Dragon will premiere in the US on June 21st at 9 PM Eastern Time, available on both HBO and HBO Max. New episodes will be released weekly, with the season concluding on August 9th. Viewers in Italy can watch the premiere on HBO Max Italy starting June 22nd, following an earlier debut at the Taormina Film Festival.

House of the Dragon Will End With Season 4

House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones, set roughly 200 years earlier. The show centers on the Targaryen family and the brutal civil war they fought, known as the Dance of the Dragons. It’s based on George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, and is one of two prequel series created so far, alongside the popular A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Season 3 will be the second-to-last season of House of the Dragon. A final season will follow to wrap up the story. The world of the show isn’t ending there, though—A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms might come back for a third season and beyond if fans continue to enjoy it.

The third season of House of the Dragon will begin streaming on HBO and HBO Max on June 21st. You can watch previous seasons anytime on HBO Max.
