In 2024, the Disney+ show Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered, offering a new story in the Star Wars universe. Created by Leslye Headland, the series is set long before the events of the Skywalker Saga, during the final days of the High Republic era.
I’m really hooked on this story! It centers around a Jedi looking into some mysterious crimes, and it’s awesome because we get to see a former Padawan reconnect with her old Jedi Master. But what starts as a simple investigation quickly becomes something HUGE – they realize whatever’s going on could change everything, possibly the entire universe! It’s seriously exciting.
The eight-episode series Star Wars: The Acolyte faced a wave of negative reviews, seemingly triggered by criticism of its non-white lead characters. Sadly, the show was canceled after just one season, leaving its devoted fans – including me – deeply disappointed.
Despite the cancellation of Star Wars: The Acolyte, fans were introduced to a memorable villain, The Stranger. Although we won’t see his full story told, that hasn’t stopped fans from recreating him in other Star Wars projects, like Star Wars: Battlefront II.
Released in 2017 as the fourth game in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, Battlefront II initially received a mixed reception due to its single-player story and the way it handled in-game purchases. Despite this, it remains popular with a large number of players.
This is thanks to a mod called The Stranger, which, as the name suggests, brings The Stranger character from The Acolyte into Star Wars: Battlefront II. Created by Zenger and available on Nexus Mods, it replaces Kylo Ren’s character model with The Stranger, and includes two different looks: one with the Cortosis Brace and one without.
This mod introduces The Stranger as a playable character, complete with his signature red lightsaber – swapping out Kylo Ren’s. To fully immerse players, new ability icons and audio have been added, featuring The Stranger’s voice and theme music, letting you hear Qimir’s famous lines on the battlefield. It’s worth noting that The Stranger’s voice lines were generated using AI, so players who aren’t comfortable with AI-generated content might not enjoy this mod.
Despite being released in 2024, The Stranger mod has already been downloaded over 3,000 times. If you’re curious to see it in action, YouTuber Rispwind has posted gameplay footage of Battlefront II with the mod installed. The mod integrates seamlessly, feeling like The Stranger has always been a playable character. Plus, it’s free to download!
