Spider-Man is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026, appearing in multiple projects. These will showcase different versions of the character, and we’ve already seen a new one appear in the recent Spider-Man TV show. While the most significant Spider-Man stories have traditionally been told in movies – like the hugely successful and critically praised Tom Holland trilogy – the character is expanding to other platforms as well.
Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield had successful runs as Spider-Man, though their films performed differently. This success isn’t limited to live-action Spider-Man; the animated Spider-Verse movies starring Miles Morales have also become huge hits worldwide, further proving the character’s broad appeal through different versions and universes.
Beyond the movies, Spider-Man has a strong history on television. Several animated series have introduced the character to different generations, like the popular but short-lived The Spectacular Spider-Man. There was even a live-action series in the 1970s, The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker. Now, a new Spider-Man is set to appear on TV.
Nicolas Cage returns as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action series from Marvel. Though he previously voiced the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this Prime Video series is a completely separate story. Spider-Noir is available to stream now and offers a fresh take on the classic hero.
Spider-Noir Can Be Binged On Prime Video Now
All eight episodes of Spider-Noir are now available on Prime Video, released today, May 27th, at 12 am PT/3 am ET. This means viewers can watch the entire series all at once – a less common approach for superhero shows these days, as most are released one episode per week. The Prime Video release follows the show’s initial airing on MGM+’s traditional TV channel on Monday, May 25th. Viewers can choose to watch Spider-Noir in either classic black and white or full color, both of which enhance different parts of the story.
Okay, so “Spider-Noir” really throws you into a different world. Forget everything you know about Spider-Man – this isn’t your friendly neighborhood hero. It’s the 1930s New York City, and Peter Parker—or rather, Ben Reilly—has hung up the suit and is now a hard-boiled private detective. He’s got a great team with his secretary, Janet, and journalist pal Robbie Robertson, and they quickly stumble into a huge case. What’s really cool is they’ve reimagined classic Spider-Man villains like Black Cat, Silvermane, and Sandman to fit this gritty, noir aesthetic. Honestly, it’s a fantastic take on the Spider-Man mythos – the action is solid, the story is compelling, and it genuinely stands out from everything else, animated or live-action, that’s been released with the Spider-Man name on it.
Why Spider-Noir Is The Perfect Watch Before Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The animated series Spider-Noir arrives about two months before Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day this July. Though the two aren’t directly linked, it gives Marvel fans another Spider-Man story to enjoy while they wait. Spider-Noir also introduces a villain – Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III – who will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Beyond establishing how formidable Tombstone could be in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film, the gritty atmosphere of Spider-Noir is a great fit for fans anticipating Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Although the upcoming movie won’t adopt the same noir style, it will focus on a down-to-earth, street-level story, much like the Prime Video series. Plus, Holland’s Peter Parker is facing the lowest point in his life, completely isolated. Cage’s Ben Reilly also grapples with trauma in the somber Spider-Noir, creating a thematic link between the two 2026 Spider-Man projects, making the series especially relevant right now.
