Missing Virgin Actor Stewart McLean Found Dead at 45

Virgin River actor Stewart McLean has passed away. He was 45.

The actor has been missing for a week. He was last seen at his home in Lions Bay, British Columbia, on Friday, May 15th. His disappearance was reported to the Squamish RCMP on Monday, May 18th.

On May 21st, his sister, Kat McLean, shared a Facebook post from producer and actor Anastassia Kivelä, asking for help finding him. The post said they were desperate for any information about his location.

On May 22nd, it was confirmed that the actor had passed away. A statement described him as a genuine, honest, caring, and very funny person, adding that he would be deeply missed.

Lucas Talent Inc. announced the passing of Stew McLean on Facebook the same day. Talent agent Jodi Caplan shared a statement saying they were deeply saddened by his death and that she had enjoyed working with him for over a decade.

Everyone who worked with Stew remembers him as a joy – he was committed, professional, enthusiastic, and had a wonderful sense of humor. We’ve received many messages from casting directors offering their sympathy to Stew’s family and our agency, and they all say the same thing: he was a truly kind person who will be greatly missed. Rest peacefully, Stew. With love.

Authorities positively identified the Canadian actor on May 23rd. This came after they announced the possibility he had been a victim of foul play the previous day. His remains were discovered in the Lions Bay area of British Columbia.

According to Corporal Esther Tupper of the Squamish RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, detectives are actively gathering and examining evidence, including security camera footage and witness statements, to determine what happened to Mr. McLean before May 15, 2026. They are following up on all potential leads in hopes of providing answers to his family and friends.

Jeff Seymour shared with Global News that he and Stewart became close friends, going beyond a student-teacher relationship. He recently wrote a role specifically for Stewart in a film project, and the two spent a week together shooting it just a couple of weeks ago. Seymour described the experience as a really enjoyable time.

Stewart McLean has been consistently working as an actor since around 2015. He started with a short film called Buddy Cops, and has since appeared in a variety of TV series and movies. Some of his credits include roles in Signed, Sealed, Delivered: One in a Million, Arrow (Season 5, Episode 3, “A Matter of Trust”), Supernatural, Travelers, Blue Steele, Loudermilk, Murder in a Small Town, and Virgin River (Season 7, Episode 3, “The Match”), as well as numerous other projects.

No arrests have been made so far.
