Orlando Bloom Offers ‘The Way To Win’ With Another Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie (And I Like His Idea)

For about a decade now, the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” films have not been released, but discussions about a remake or follow-up persistently linger. Orlando Bloom, who initially contemplated declining the role of Will Turner before it became pivotal to his career, has recently provided his thoughts on how Disney could make another film successful, given his busy 2025 movie release schedule. To be frank, his proposal is quite compelling.

At Fan Expo Chicago over the weekend, Bloom hinted (as reported by Entertainment Weekly) that revived franchises could be on the horizon. Contrary to expectations of complex spin-offs or radical reimaginings, the Lord of the Rings alum suggested a surprisingly straightforward approach: a reunion of the original cast. He stated:

“It might just be time for us to reunite.

I’d be delighted if everyone could return. To achieve success in this case, we need everyone to come back. Assuming they have the ability and everyone wishes to return.

It would make me happy to see everyone back. The best way forward seems to involve getting everyone back on board. If it’s possible for them and if everyone is willing to return.

It’s tough to dispute that reasoning. Even though the Pirates of the Caribbean series (now available for streaming with a Disney+ subscription) has ventured into new characters and different storylines in its later installments, fans tend to yearn for the original cast dynamic that initially propelled the show to worldwide fame, specifically between Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, and Johnny Depp’s character Jack Sparrow. The actor from Kingdom of Heaven strongly emphasized his view that a genuine reunion is the key to moving forward.

As a film enthusiast, I firmly believe that when a script shines, it calls for an equally compelling execution from all involved – a ‘headfirst’ approach, if you will. It’s the essence of ‘either all in or not at all’, a familiar notion to many.

Essentially, for Disney to truly bring back Pirates with impact, going only halfway isn’t sufficient. The fans aren’t just seeking a nod to the past; they yearn for the entire pirate crew to return aboard the Black Pearl. Crucially, the success of this endeavor will heavily depend on the exceptional quality of the script.

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the captivating Pirates franchise is now streaming on Disney+! They’ve got an exciting new ad-supported plan priced at just $9.99 per month. If you prefer an ad-free experience, it’s available for $15.99 a month. Or, if you want to save 16%, you can pre-pay $159.99 for a year’s worth of uninterrupted viewing. Check out the deal and let the cinematic adventure begin!

Indeed, there are choppy waters to maneuver through. The high-profile legal disputes involving Johnny Depp have cast a shadow over any potential resurgence for him, and even Geoffrey Rush has faced similar legal challenges in recent times. Yet, veteran Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer hasn’t entirely dismissed the idea of Captain Jack and his original crew setting sail once more. The 48-year-old English actor also shared his thoughts on where Disney might be guiding the franchise in the future, summarizing it as follows:

Considering the scenario… there’s discussion about introducing a female protagonist who shares characteristics with Jack. However, it’s still uncertain whether this would be the right approach. At this point, opinions are divided and the best way forward is yet to be determined, but if the script is exceptional…

Previously, Disney has considered various spin-offs, among them Margot Robbie’s widely talked-about female-led project. However, Emily Blunt’s comments shed some clarity: no matter how creative or innovative new perspectives may be, they cannot recreate the magical camaraderie that the original cast had, which was like capturing lightning in a bottle.

Perhaps the secret lies therein. If the Pirates of the Caribbean were to set sail once more, it might be that the recipe for success isn’t creating something brand new, but reuniting the crew for one final, well-orchestrated adventure.

If you want to revisit the best of the series, all five movies are streaming on Disney+.
