For almost 15 years now, Taylor Kitsch first played Remy LeBeau, more popularly known as Gambit, in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Although his role was brief, it left a lasting impression. However, many viewers felt that this portrayal fell short, much like Deadpool’s contentious representation in the same movie. Sadly, Kitsch’s time as the flamboyant mutant who wields cards was cut short when Channing Tatum took over the role and was linked to a potential standalone Gambit film which never came to fruition. Recently, Kitsch has spoken up about being replaced, and his reaction may come as a shock.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant for the upcoming Prime Video series “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf“, Kitsch was inquired about Tatum’s portrayal of the popular X-Men character in last year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine“. When questioned if he had a chance to watch Tatum’s interpretation of the character he first played, Kitsch confessed to the publication that he had not yet seen it.
I have not.
In a straightforward and conversational manner, we can say: Despite starring in Season 2 of True Detective, the actor didn’t shy away from discussing potential follow-ups. When asked about giving up the role being a challenging topic, he offered a thoughtful response instead.
Absolutely not, friend. That’s just how it goes, buddy. Everything’s cool. I really enjoy the journey I’m on, the character I’ve developed, and the tales I’m involved with. No joke intended, here’s a saying for you: Gambit wasn’t part of my destiny, pal.
For those who might have wished for Taylor Kitsch to portray Gambit again in the MCU, his position is now clarified beyond doubt. The actor expresses satisfaction with how his career has progressed post-Marvel. Furthermore, it’s not as if he’s been resting since his short-lived Marvel tenure. In fact, after his role in X-Men Origins, Kitsch took on significant roles in movies such as John Carter, Battleship, and Savages.
In addition to his movie roles, Taylor Kitsch has made a mark in television shows such as “True Detective” Season 2 and “Waco.” Furthermore, Kitsch is joining forces again with Chris Pratt for the upcoming spinoff of “The Terminal List,” set to premiere on August 27, 2025. This new series can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription as part of its TV schedule.
It’s worth noting that despite indicating that he doesn’t have full control over Gambit’s future in Marvel, the actor who hails from Canada didn’t completely rule out returning to his superhero role. When questioned if his superhero career was definitively in the past, he left the possibility open, remarking:
You know, never say never, but honestly, this upcoming project really has me feeling a mix of excitement and dread! I’ve got this book here titled “11 Days in Hell.” It’s about an intense 11-day negotiation that happened in Huntsville Prison back in ’74. Talk about nerve-wracking stuff! I’m set to direct it, with Peter Landesman at the helm, and it’s a true story, which I take great pride in bringing to life. Plus, I love taking on diverse roles, so this should be an interesting challenge for me!
The actor from Battleship appears to have come to terms with his past and is eagerly taking on roles that push him to his limits. Whether it’s his work in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf or the upcoming film adaptation of the true story in 11 Days in Hell, he’s building a career known for versatility and determination, rather than dwelling on past opportunities.

The outcome wasn’t favorable for Gambit, but Taylor Kitsch appears unbothered about leaving things to fate.
