Netflix’s 98% RT Fantasy Action Series Is Getting Better And Better

As a huge fantasy fan, I’m always a little nervous when a show comes back for another season, because so often they lose steam. But this Netflix series? It actually gets better with each new season! And honestly, it doesn’t surprise me coming from the folks at Netflix. They’ve been knocking it out of the park with fantasy shows lately – I loved Castlevania, One Piece, and Arcane, so I had a good feeling about this one, and it definitely delivered. It’s easily one of the best fantasy series returning this year.

Netflix has a strong collection of fantasy shows, but Arcane is widely considered one of the best. Since it ended in 2024, no other fantasy series on the platform has quite reached its level—until now. The recent return of Devil May Cry may challenge Arcane‘s title as Netflix’s top video game adaptation. Debuting in 2025, Devil May Cry signaled a new high point for shows based on video games. Its first season was a hit with critics, earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I was completely blown away by the first season of Devil May Cry. Dante is just such a cool character – really sarcastic, a bit of a wild card, and that made all the fights so exciting because you never knew what he’d do. The action was incredible, and I’ll definitely remember those battles for a long time. But honestly, as amazing as it was, something felt missing… and that was Vergil. I really hope they bring Dante’s brother into the next season!

Vergil’s arrival in the second season of Devil May Cry significantly increased the tension and complexity of the story. Previously, Dante operated mostly on his own, with only Enzo as a connection to the human world. Vergil’s introduction dramatically changed things, not only for Dante personally but for the entire show, by making the conflict between humans and demons much more intricate.

The second season of the series is a fantastic improvement over the first, delivering a more thrilling and character-focused experience. Everything about Devil May Cry season 2 is better – the action is more intense, the music is amazing, and Dante shows a more developed and mature side. The season also delves into key story questions, such as the backgrounds of Sparda and Lady’s father.

Everyone agrees the second season of the show is a significant improvement. It currently has a perfect 100% score from critics and a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, resulting in an overall rating of 98%. The show has definitely earned this high praise.

Devil May Cry Is Primed For An Even Better Season 3

The first two seasons of Devil May Cry successfully built a solid foundation for its universe, including its unique rules and the complex relationships between characters. While the show is packed with demons, action, and chaos, it’s fundamentally a story about two brothers who were separated in their youth and now struggle to connect as adults.

It’s unclear if Vergil is truly good or evil, considering his upbringing by a demon. Despite being severely injured by his brother, Dante still holds onto hope for him. If the show gets a third season (which Netflix hasn’t confirmed yet), it will further explore this complex relationship, promising even more emotional moments.

The biggest mystery the third season of Devil May Cry needs to solve is the outcome of the fight between Mundus, the main villain, and Vergil. The previous season left this unanswered, and fans are hoping Vergil won. However, Mundus was clearly the stronger opponent. While Vergil might be imprisoned for his actions, it’s unlikely he’d stay there for long, especially since Dante probably wouldn’t let anything happen to his brother.

Despite all the action, violence, complicated family issues, and great music in Devil May Cry season 2, a romance developed between Dante and Lady. The next season needs to explore where their relationship goes, as it’s become a key and fascinating part of the show.

The series has moved back and forth between Earth and the demon world, Makai, but the ending of season 2 suggests the story will now focus entirely on Makai. Dante is committed to rescuing his brother, and Lady is determined to find her father. If the show continues to develop these storylines and explore the characters’ feelings, the upcoming third season of Devil May Cry could be the best one yet.
