5 Biggest Spider-Man Villains Missing From the MCU

Spider-Man is known for having a huge collection of memorable villains, second only to Batman in the world of superheroes. We’ve already seen many of these iconic foes appear on screen. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man battled villains like Vulture, Shocker, and Mysterio in his first two movies, and the film Spider-Man: No Way Home brought even more classic enemies into the mix, including different versions of Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro from across the multiverse.

Some of Spider-Man’s classic enemies have already appeared in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects, such as Kingpin in Hawkeye and Daredevil: Born Again. The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie will add Scorpion and Tombstone to the mix, along with less famous villains like Tarantula and Boomerang. However, there are still several major Spider-Man villains we haven’t seen in the MCU yet.

Mister Negative Has Become a Mainstay Spider-Man Villain

I’ve been a Spider-Man fan for years, and while a lot of his classic enemies are from way back, Mister Negative really stands out as a more recent addition who’s become a major threat. He’s definitely cemented himself as one of Spidey’s core villains, especially thanks to his big role in the Spider-Man games by Insomniac. What’s really cool is that Mister Negative, whose real name is Martin Li, has powers tied to this energy called the Darkforce and Lightforce – it’s the same stuff that gives Cloak and Dagger their abilities!

Mister Negative has a dangerous touch that can completely change people’s personalities and values, making even good people serve him. He can also, rarely, reverse the evil in something, but he usually uses his power to corrupt. While there were rumors he’d appear in Brand New Day, he wasn’t featured in any promotional materials. However, a recent appearance by Wonder Man might hint at Mister Negative showing up soon.

Hobgoblin Is the Successor to Spider-Man’s Nemesis

As a huge Spider-Man fan, it’s wild to me that Green Goblin keeps popping up in the movies – we’ve seen him in the original Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and even No Way Home! But the comics are full of other ‘goblin’ villains that haven’t made it to the big screen yet. The one everyone talks about is Hobgoblin. He basically took Norman Osborn’s old gear and ran with it after Osborn seemed to die way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #122.

Several characters have taken on the role of Hobgoblin over time, most famously fashion designer Roderick Kingsley. For a period, Ned Leeds also became Hobgoblin after being brainwashed. In the movie No Way Home, Ned jokingly promised Peter he wouldn’t become a supervillain and try to kill him, referencing how Harry Osborn acted. Many fans saw this as a hint that Ned might become Hobgoblin, just like in the comics.

Jackal Created Some of Spider-Man’s Most Important Supporting Characters

Dr. Miles Warren, or the Jackal, isn’t as well-known as some Spider-Man villains, but he’s had a significant effect on the character’s history. Once a professor at Empire State University, Warren developed an unhealthy obsession with his student, Gwen Stacy, which drove him to become a supervillain seeking revenge. While he first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 back in 1974, he became truly famous twenty years later as the creator of the divisive “Clone Saga,” which introduced Ben Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I totally geeked out when I spotted something in the Brand New Day trailer! There’s a keg at Michelle’s party labeled ‘Green Jackal,’ which is a seriously cool Easter egg. The idea of Peter having a clone has never been done properly in live-action, and I think it could be a really exciting story for the MCU. The only thing is, since it doesn’t look like they’re bringing Gwen Stacy into this universe, they’d have to change Jackal’s reasons for doing what he does quite a bit to make it work.

Kraven the Hunter’s Solo Film Wasted an Intriguing Spider-Man Villain

Sony has been expanding its Spider-Man universe with films featuring some of the web-slinger’s well-known enemies, like Morbius, Rhino, Chameleon, and notably, Kraven the Hunter. Kraven, whose real name is Sergei Kravinoff, first appeared in a 1964 Spider-Man comic as a world-class hunter determined to prove himself by battling Spider-Man. He later became the central villain in the acclaimed “Kraven’s Last Hunt” story, which is widely considered one of

Kraven nearly made it into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not as a villain for Spider-Man. Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther, had plans to include him in a sequel, but Sony wouldn’t permit it, fearing it would interfere with their own planned Kraven the Hunter movie. While Sony’s Kraven the Hunter film wasn’t a success with critics or audiences, it didn’t receive the same level of negative attention as films like Morbius or Madame Web. This means Marvel still has a chance to make the character popular with the public.

Carnage Is Spider-Man’s Deadliest Symbiote Foe

Venom, Spider-Man’s iconic foe, has already shown up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a brief appearance by Eddie Brock from Sony’s Venom movies in the post-credits scene of No Way Home. However, that still leaves the door open for Carnage, Marvel’s second most well-known Symbiote. First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man comic book #361 in 1992, the Carnage Symbiote is Venom’s offspring and bonded with the serial killer Cletus Kasady. Unlike some villains, Cletus Kasady has always been purely evil, delighting in destruction and violence.

Woody Harrelson played the villain Carnage in the movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage. While Harrelson’s acting was okay, many fans felt he wasn’t right for the role of Cletus Kasady and that the movie didn’t do Carnage justice. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely Carnage will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. To make that happen, Venom needs to be introduced first, and that likely won’t occur until after Spider-Man goes through a storyline featuring the black suit – something expected to start in Avengers: Secret Wars. With Tom Holland’s time as Spider-Man potentially ending soon, a battle between Spider-Man and Carnage might not be possible.
