It looks like something we’ve been waiting for is finally about to happen. While they haven’t announced who will be involved yet, we’re starting to learn more about the qualities they’re seeking in a performer.
Casting director Nina Gold has shared that the next James Bond needs to be incredibly charismatic and, of course, a talented actor. In addition to acting ability, a key quality they’re looking for is strong sex appeal. They’ve also confirmed the actor needs to be young enough to commit to a potential series of five more films.
What to Know About the New James Bond
James Bond is a long-running character, appearing in films for over sixty years. Several actors have brought Bond to life on screen, beginning with Sean Connery and continuing with George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and, most recently, Daniel Craig. The character originated in novels by Ian Fleming.
As a lifelong Bond fan, I was pretty surprised to hear about all the changes happening with the franchise! For years, MGM handled distribution, with Eon Productions making the movies. But with Amazon buying MGM, everything shifted. As of February 2025, Amazon now has complete creative control over James Bond. What’s even bigger news is that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who’ve produced the Bond films for decades, are stepping down as producers. They’re not leaving the Bond world entirely, though – they’ll still be involved as co-owners, which is a bit of a relief!
The next James Bond film—the 26th installment in the long-running series, which began in 1962—will be produced by Amy Pascal (known for the Spider-Man films) and David Heyman (of the Harry Potter franchise). Dune director Denis Villeneuve will direct, and the script will be written by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders.
The hunt for the next James Bond is officially on, but they haven’t chosen an actor yet. Amazon MGM Studios said they won’t be sharing details about the casting process, but promise to announce news when they’re ready.
A new actor will take over the role of James Bond, following Daniel Craig’s impressive 15-year run. Craig first played 007 in 2006 with Casino Royale, and went on to star in Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and finally No Time to Die in 2021.
