Fans of Doctor Who have both good and bad news. The good news is that many recent seasons of the show are now available on AMC+ in the US. However, the newest seasons aren’t included in this deal, leaving the future of streaming Doctor Who unclear.
Good news for Doctor Who fans in the US! Starting June 11th, seasons 1 through 13 will be available on AMC+. This includes all episodes featuring Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor.
AMC+ is becoming a go-to place for high-quality science fiction and fantasy shows, and adding Doctor Who will only strengthen that position, according to Courtney Thomasma, an executive at AMC Global Media. She stated that they are excited to bring Doctor Who – and its dedicated fanbase – to their streaming service, hoping to welcome back existing fans and attract new viewers to this classic show.
Doctor Who’s Future Remains Uncertain
Importantly, this agreement doesn’t cover the most recent two seasons of Doctor Who featuring Ncuti Gatwa. These seasons were essentially a fresh start, labeled as Season 1 and Season 2, and were only available to stream on Disney+ outside of the UK.
The recent viewership numbers for Doctor Who are causing concern about the show’s future. After the latest seasons didn’t attract the expected audience, Disney, which invested heavily in the show, may be hesitant to continue funding it. This leaves the BBC looking for new financial partners or facing the possibility of reduced production costs.
There are no plans for new seasons of Doctor Who right now. However, a Christmas special is scheduled for late 2026, which will likely wrap up the current storyline.
Which Season of Doctor Who Will Be On AMC+?
AMC+ is getting all the episodes of Doctor Who that originally aired from 2005 to 2022. This includes all 175 episodes featuring the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, and Thirteenth Doctors, as well as any special episodes.
Season 1 of Doctor Who marks Russell T Davies’ fresh take on the classic series for a new generation. It introduces Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, who is slowly rediscovering how to enjoy life after the devastating Time War.
The second through fourth seasons of Doctor Who showcase a compelling character arc. Throughout these seasons, the Doctor travels with companions Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, and Donna Noble. His time as this incarnation concludes with four special episodes where he ultimately faces the consequences of his own pride.
Seasons 5 through 7 of Doctor Who marked a significant shift for the show, as Steven Moffat became the new showrunner, taking over from Russell T Davies. These seasons are known for their complex, intriguing storylines—often revealed through layered mysteries—and feature memorable companions like Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Clara Oswald, and River Song. The era concludes with several special episodes, including the highly acclaimed 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor.”
Seasons 8 through 10 of Doctor Who felt like a return to classic form. Starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, these seasons introduced compelling new relationships – first with Clara, and then with Bill Potts – creating fresh and engaging interactions.
The eleventh through thirteenth seasons of Doctor Who were groundbreaking in terms of casting choices. During this period, the new showrunner, Chris Chibnall, also made significant changes—though some were debated—to the Doctor’s backstory and the established history of the Time Lords.
You can see all of this for yourself when Doctor Who comes to AMC+ on June 11.
