With fans speculating about what’s next, Pedro Pascal has spoken about the future of his character, Din Djarin, and Grogu after the events of The Mandalorian.
A popular theory about The Mandalorian and Grogu suggests Din Djarin might die in the next installment. Lines from the trailers, like “The kid will live centuries beyond me” and “I won’t always be around to protect him,” have fueled this speculation. A recent tagline – “His greatest mission could be his last” – further supports the idea that Din’s fate is in jeopardy.
I was reading an interview with Pedro Pascal from a recent Q&A in London (via GamesRadar+), and he was so sweet talking about Din Djarin. He said playing the character for this long has been the most creatively fulfilling thing he’s ever done – it’s the longest he’s ever played one role! And get this – he’s really hoping to continue as the Mandalorian and with Grogu for as long as physically possible, even if it means multiple stunt doubles in the suit. It’s great to hear he’s so invested and wants to keep going!
Although it’s not certain Din Djarin will survive the events of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Pedro Pascal’s desire to reprise the role is a good sign. It’s important to remember that while Pascal provides the voice and face of Din, most of the physical performance inside the Mandalorian armor is done by Lateef Crowder and Brendan Wayne.
Most fans didn’t believe Din Djarin, known for his strong bond with Grogu, would die, but the recent movie trailers have strongly suggested it’s a possibility by repeatedly focusing on his vulnerability. This makes their first big-screen adventure much more intense, although Pedro Pascal has hinted that Din and Grogu’s story isn’t over yet.
Now that Pascal wants to keep playing Din Djarin, and the character appears safe, everyone’s wondering what happens next after the upcoming Star Wars film. The success of The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters will likely determine whether Din and Grogu’s story continues on the big screen, or if it goes back to being a Disney+ streaming series.
Jon Favreau has said that a fourth season of The Mandalorian was actually written, but those plans shifted and now a movie will continue the story instead. While a fourth season on Disney+ or a movie sequel are still possible, Din and Grogu could also appear in other Star Wars projects as supporting characters. Season 2 of Ahsoka is coming soon, and fans are speculating about how the ending of The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s story might lead into it, and if the pair will be featured in the new season.
I’m so excited for the next adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu! It sounds like their story is going to tie into the bigger picture of the New Republic dealing with what’s left of the Empire, which is also what Ahsoka is building towards with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn – though we haven’t officially seen him confirmed for the movie yet. They’re adding some cool new faces to Din’s team, like Colonel Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios from the animated series Star Wars Rebels. And get this – Jeremy Allen White is voicing Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son! It’s shaping up to be an epic continuation of the story.
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22.
