Marisa Tomei Officially Starring In HBO’s Returning Legal Thriller War Season 2

Marisa Tomei just lined up her next project on the small screen: a legal thriller for HBO.

According to Deadline, Marisa Tomei will appear in the second season of War, joining new cast members Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), David Harewood (Homeland), and Richard Schiff (The West Wing). The season will also feature Claire Skinner, Omari Douglas, Kadiff Kirwan, Douglas Booth, Luca Pasqualino, Charles Edwards, Alexandra Maria Lara, Rebecca Front, Violet Braeckman, Linus Roache, Sasha Behar, Cornelius Booth, Sid Phoenix, and Megan Channell.

The upcoming series War, set to launch in 2026 on Sky (UK) and HBO (US), will feature Dominic West (known from The Crown) and Sienna Miller (American Sniper) as a powerful tech executive and a famous actress, respectively. The first season will revolve around their very public divorce. The second season will then explore a heated legal battle between two competing law firms, and production for that season is already underway.

I’m really excited about War because it’s from George Kay, who’s done amazing work on shows like Killing Eve, Lupin, and Hijack. He led the writing team – including Kelly Jones, Catherine Shepherd, Jess Britain, Krissie Ducker, and Yemi Oyefuwa – and also produced the series alongside Ben Taylor (who directed it), Willow Grylls, Matt Sandford, Susan Breen, Megan Spanjian, Imogen O’Sullivan, and Matt Carver. It’s a fantastic team, and I have high hopes for this show!

As a film buff, I’ve always been impressed by Marisa Tomei. She really burst onto the scene with her hilarious and unforgettable role as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny. Since then, she’s consistently delivered fantastic performances in movies like Chaplin, What Women Want, Anger Management, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and The Ides of March. And it’s not just popular appeal – she’s earned serious critical acclaim too, with Oscar nominations for both In the Bedroom and The Wrestler. Honestly, her talent is recognized across the board, with nominations at the Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, SAG Awards, and Critics’ Choice Awards – a truly versatile and respected actress!

Marisa Tomei really made the role of Aunt May her own when she first appeared in Captain America: Civil War – it was also our introduction to Tom Holland as Spider-Man, which was exciting! I always enjoyed seeing her pop up in the Marvel films after that, bringing a warmth and relatability to the character. She was a key part of the Spider-Man story through Homecoming, the epic Endgame, Far From Home, and right up to the emotional No Way Home.

Marisa Tomei has a long history on television, starting with roles in shows like As the World Turns and A Different World. She’s also appeared in more recent dramas and comedies, including Rescue Me with Denis Leary and Lee Daniels’ Empire. Her latest TV work includes Sarah Cooper’s Netflix special Everything’s Fine, Live in Front of a Studio Audience, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

Marisa Tomei is coming back to television in the new HBO legal thriller, War. The first season is scheduled to debut in 2026, but the premiere date for the second season, which will feature Tomei, is still unknown.
