3 Years After Scream Firing, Melissa Barrera Officially Returns to Horror

Melissa Barrera, known for her role in Scream VI, is back to acting in the horror genre. This comes after she was let go from Scream 7 three years ago due to posts she made on social media regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Barrera is set to star in Inhabit, a new horror film by Adam Alleca. The movie is a psychological thriller with a constant sense of dread, and it delves into difficult themes like trauma, motherhood, and the burdens of immense power.

I’m really intrigued by this new film! It’s about a woman who’s trying to rebuild her life after something awful happens, so she moves into this pretty rough apartment building. But things quickly go sideways – she starts experiencing these really unsettling things, from creepy neighbors to feeling like someone’s stalking her, and just a general sense of danger. She begins to think something is actively hunting her, something that messes with her head and makes her question everything. Apparently, to survive, she has to face some really difficult truths about herself – it sounds like a truly psychological and terrifying ride!

Inhabit Director Compares Movie to The Exorcist

For me, truly scary movies aren’t just about jump scares – they’re about tapping into a deep, universal fear that hasn’t really been explored before. And I think Inhabit really does that. When I was working on it, I kept looking to some of my favorite, bold, character-focused thrillers for inspiration – things like Rosemary’s Baby, The Exorcist, and Get Out. Those films really pushed boundaries, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps.

Logical Pictures Group is providing funding for the film Inhabit and will be handling international sales at the Cannes Film Market. In the U.S., Range Select is co-representing the film’s rights. The horror film is being produced by Ric Roman Waugh, Brendon Boyea, and Kenner Bolt of Cinemachine, along with Frédéric Fiore, Ryan Wickers, and Andrei Kamarowsky from Logical Pictures Group.
